A change of culture at Fitchburg Police Dept. - Sentinel & Enterprise

Full story: Sentinel & Enterprise

A cultural sea change has taken place at the Fitchburg Police Department over the past few years, thanks in large part to Chief Robert DeMoura's steady leadership and Mayor Lisa Wong's firm resolve and vision to bring about broader change in Fitchburg.

Interesting posts.....you do not pull any punches; as far as names and details of events go; so I don't doubt your story.

I have not dealt too much with the FPD; most of my interaction with them has left me neither mad or impressed. In other words, just a low level effort on the part of the PD; but nothing out of line.

However; I can honestly say that I did cross paths with officer Sevigny one day. And, this pint sized policeman was grossly out of line. He was playing up the scary cop routine; and he was on a real tyrade. Luckily; I too was able to maintain my self control; only because this blowhard had on a badge. In other settings; this boob would have been knocked on the ground before he knew what hit him........

Senator Lynchs office got involved directly calling Chief Kearns.
Doesnít Senator Lynch serve the Boston area? Isnít Fitchburg a little far out of his district for him to be getting involved in things? Hopefully the Senator isnít a relative or family friend of you or anyone else involved because if he is that would be a SERIOUS ethics violation. If he is the FBI needs to investigate his office because his involvement in the matter of a family friend or relative would be no different then what is going on in the probation department right now. Now if it is just a matter of coincidence that your mother has enough political juice to get the Senator involved then I say GOOD FOR HER! You should then use your mothers political influence to try and get more funding for programs to help rehabilitate all the druggies running around town. You see, I think the really problem with Fitchburg isnít the police, it is the public perception of the City. Ask anyone (who doesnít live in Fitchburg) what they think of the city and Iím willing to bet they will tell you that the city is full of Criminal and Convicted Felons, undesirables if you will. If the city did something to get these ďundesirablesĒ out of the city then the public perception of the City would change and more people would come to live, work, and do business in the City. Another upside to getting these ďundesirableĒ people out of the City would be less crime. With less crime we would be able to cut the number of police officer that are needed and would be able to weed out the lazy and corrupt ones and keep the honest and hard working ones. But hey thatís just my opinion.

As I mentioned my mother is elderly and she was in Senator Lynchs district. This is the Senators job to mediate for his constituents. I contact Jennifer Flanagan and Olver over these issues as they represent me!
I agree with your description of peoples perceptions. This is changing slowly but surely.
Unfortunately, some on here have posted that the criminals and the cops in Fitchburg are fighting for the title of most corrupt!
I disagree with you a little on your description of convicted felons to a point that anyone can change for the better and become more of an asset for any and all cities more than most other citizens. This doesn't include those that continue to break the law.

Part two to my response to jorge.
I personally know two former prostitutes that have changed their lives around to the point where they have helped thousands of people. Both are counselors for those dealing with addictions. Both work for the Department of corrections, one of which lives in Fitchburg and I believ became a correctional officer! She has a place in heaven. Throughout any decency lessons are those where people assist others who are down and out and suffering! I remember a day when neighbors use to share cloths with other neighborhood kids as their kids had outgrown them. I remember being sent constantly to the local bakery for the elderly in the neighborhood!
During the icestorm I wondered how many elderly were stuck in their houses and people didn't know that they were there. Ask the Fitchburg elderly center in refernce to this fact! And people want to close the center?? A lot that you do not see is good happening around this city! There are many good people here of all races and cultures! Too many people criticize others that do not look like them, it is sad and should always be addressed! Everyone understands and sees those that are of the criminal element and they make up all races and cultures.
I remember Fitchburg 10 years ago when Heroin ran rampid; then the clinic opened. People including Mayor Mylott did not want this clinic in the city. Let me tell you; A lot of heroin addics are now clean and crime free due to this clinic and are able to enjoy the better things in life which can be as simple as a nice weather day! A lot of these clients are now working full time jobs which would not be the case if they were still at Tedeschis bumming change. A lot of people self medicate with heroin; with a prescription of paxil or other drugs they can balance chemically!
Today is a sad day in the paper they are planning on closing the mental health unit at Burbank! See a lot of people will criticize others who have depression problems and other mental health problems because they are not afflicted! How many incidents at Leominster hospital concerning mental health patients have there been just this past year?
I am for more welfare reform but through job creation. I am constantly working on bringing businesses into Fitchburg and promting Job growth efforts through our leaders that would benefit Fitchburg. We need to keep them honest! As I have written to all the politicians concerning the creation of jobs for the citizens of fitchburg through these commuter rail improvement grants!
I am not the cop hater that they pertray me to be; I am the corrupt cop hater!

Well thatís where I disagree. You see in my opinion people who are convicted of a felony commit two crimes. First they commit a crime against the victim, which destroys the victims life and robs them of their innocence! Second and equally as hanus, they rape the tax payers for the cost of their incarceration. Did you know it cost over $40,000 annually to incarcerate someone. So as far as Iím concerned, as much money as Taska stole (which he deserves to be punished and sent to prison for) it is not nearly as much as each convicted felon steals annually from tax payers, while they are interacted. In my opinion, as part of their punishment they should have to pay back the cost of their incarnation plus interest! If they were forced to do this the state would have more money then they knew what to do with. Let me ask you this, if you had one of these convicted felons in your neighborhood would you let your kids go outside and play? I for one would not and I would do everything in my power to move out of thatís neighborhood to get my children away for those vial people! Most law abiding citizen feel the same way, hence the reason Fitchburg has such a bad rap.

As for my questioning you about Senator Lynch Iím sorry if I offended you but I just needed to be sure that that was no improprieties on you part as you are making some serious allegations against members of the Fitchburg Police Department. After all I donít know if Senator Lynch and Congressman Lynch are the same person but I remember reading in the Boston Glob a while back that the Congressman won congressional earmarks for agencies his wife had ties to while he had never secured any type of funding for any similar agencies. Thatís why I had to check, I remember reading that article. I feel a little silly though because a person who is making such allegations against members of the police department would never think to use their political connections to try and influence other public figures decisions because that would be a major ethics violation that Iím confident you would report.

I did not hang out with these counsilors; they are actually mentors to me. I have worked with a lot of people struggling with drug addictions and I am proud to pray for every last one of them!

See, you talk about being judged? Who has the right to judge? All the bibles that I ever read stated that only God will judge everyone individually! If you are not christian, I can't help you there. I believe in God. I wouldn't waste your time sitting around judging everyone!

The previous person who posted talked about ex convicts. He talked about keeping his kids indoors if ex cons were around. If he is talking about a sex offender, I agree with him, I would watch my kid and move them away quickly! Everyone should check with the sex offender registry and see where the molestors live.

You constantly follow me around. We all know your feelings on these matters. Now in my mind if you disagree with me then ;Yes you must either be one of the criminal cops as they frequent this site often or you are a relative or friend whom benefits from their corruptive abuse of authority!
Yes Kev, I did follow you around in here. Especially after you chose to start posting your rants under my screen name. I began calling you out not when you commented on the officer charged with OUI, not when you railed on about McNamara, or Louney, or Kearns, or DeMoura. I called you out when you began to bash an officer who was injured in the line of duty. You attacked his integrity with nothing more than ramblings about "something you overheard someone else talk about something they might have heard from somebody else". That's called gossip at best and libel at its worst. And yes, I do have a problem with it. And no, I've never met Off. Cordio in my life. It's the principle of the fact.

You decided to do the same thing with the thread in Lunenburg and by your own admission you don't know the first thing about the officers involved. You just ASSUMED they are guilty of something. From what I see, the only thing they are guilty of is doing their job. The sad part is, when the case gets thrown out because its proven to be BS created by a whackjob stalker, that will never make the paper.

You claim you have no problem with honest cops, but yet to read your postings, they don't exist! You always seem to think I'm some corrupt cop or a relative. Shoot, you think anyone who disagrees with you is. For that matter, you thought I was following you for real! Paranoid much? I'm not. You used to post as Kevin from Fitchburg and described where you live for Pete's sake! The other guys just confirmed it. They apparently know you far better than I. Read your own postings! You post so much under so many names you don't even remeber what you write!

I have been involved in public safety for over 25 years and known many cops. I've seen a few bad apples in that time and they usualy got what was coming to them. The vast majority of them I've encountered are good people trying to do a very difficult job. One I certainly wouldn't want.

So yes, I will call you out when you attack someone soley because he's a cop. You want to carry on against ones that are proven bad, go nuts. But have at least a shred of truth to go on.

I have said nothing about this cordio. I didn't mention anything about his injuries! I did question whether he had his emergency lights on or off as it is a huge difference! If they were off then he is at fault and should be surcharged and he should have to do desk duty and a driving class!
Anything else said was from others. If anyone was offended I apologize for my part. When I hear McNamarras name I don't trust anything he investigates; pluis there are a lot of un answered questions concerning that crash. They are not looking for any car, no one gave a description of the vehicle and there was no mention of anyone cited so yes there are questions and like I said I don't trust McNamarra on anything that he states. He may owe favors to this fellow employee, who knows. If you want to hear any gossip then go to breakfast on Lunenburg street; I agree with what I hear there as they make good points. Two other good gossip spots are expresso where their is a lot of gossip, dunkin donuts ofcourse especially the one on main street. Other than those places just ask anyone in the neighborhood as a lot of these kids go to school with the kids of FPD members.

But with the stalking, you have stalked me from months ago! And with the Lunenburg case. I don't know any of these cops involved and I didn't say anything against them as I never heard of their names! You feel that everyone posted under fitchburg is me and it is not! I laugh when I see you post in reply to someone who you think is me!
For another I respect cops that do their job lawfully; any cop that fixes evidence is a criminal!A cop that steals is a criminal! Other than that I support their jobs! And the worst criminal cop is one that deals with drugs! And if you ask around you will hear the stories of these FPD officers. As I mentioned there is a domincan cop in Fitchburg and his Italian partner who take money and drugs from dealers on a regular basis. Someone told me two days ago that an Italian cop who I guess had been partners with this dominican fpd officer is crooked! I was told that he is a big cop but not in shape! I know this because I asked him if the Italian cop was tall and very built with muscles and had a steroid attitude and he said NO, that the italian cop is out of shape. I don't know who this is but I would like to know!
Ask a prostitute about these cops and they'll tell you a lot! I spend a lot of my free time attempting to assist people in the street to get clean off drugs and into work. Now a lot of people will criticize me for this as your partners already have but it is rewarding when these people get clean, sometimes it is a lot of work and energy but a lot of these people are good people when they are off drugs and they have family who loves them and are always worried for them!I also drive people to shelters as I encourage them to stay clean, to get a job,I tell them to expect to struggle but it will be worth it. Most importantly I tell them that they are first cheating themselves out of a decent life and that not everyday will be sunny but that the sun will come out as it always does and it is the same for the majority of society.I can remember ten years ago chasing people through the streets as the FPD would pull up and talk to me; I'd tell them stop harrassing the addics and go after the ones driving the fancy cars that are selling the poison. Fitchburg has come a long way. I have driven and set up hundreds to detox. Some people look at this as "why bother"?

Take a look at JRs! Everyone knows that this is a cop bar! I like seeing the old cars! I like seeing the nice bikes. I like the music that they play over the loud speakers. I think the bar is well kept. The problem I have is people have told me that they seen three cruisers one night, two of which were cornering the third and telling him he can't drive like that! I would guess that this was a cop driving in a cruiser drunk!
Now the cars will park five deep in the driving lane causing ALL traffic to be forced over the double yellow! As people are crossing in between going to see the bikes that are parked on the side walk of the fire station. After the bar closes, it is smokem time. I don't care if they do this in their own parking area but they are marking the street and tearing up new pavement in front of the NEW firestation! This is the PRIDE of Fitchburg! That station is massive and well equiped and new! This is done as a FPD cruiser sits and watches from his perch either in the parking lot or under the commuter rail station.
As I mentioned, that truck driver who was parked at JRs yestrerday is the same truck that parks in the driving lane in front of TD Bank north on Main street! Who is this guy? Who does he think he is? someone needs to straighten him out! This man is dangerous! Like I have mentioned I know a lot of bad cops from back in the day in Boston and this guy pronounces himself as a total rogue! He don't care who sees him breaking the law; he feels UNTOUCHABLE and ABOVE the law! This guy was given WAY TOO MANY BONUSES AND PROMOTIONS! He is a problem!
When you see more than once a big pickup truck stop in the right lane during rush hour and blatently and calmly park his truck in the only running lane on the right side of Main street then you know ONE THING! The CLIQUES TOP HENCHMAN! This total display of arrogance should earn this driver a immediate suspension!

I stated the right lane. I meant THE LEFT LANE!In front of TD bank north! This is a big difference, sorry!

This guys plate is either two or three letters and one number I believe. It is a short plate!

How do we find out who this is? This guy is ALL TROUBLE!! This can be construed from his blatent behavior!

I have NEVER seen a cop park in the driving lane on a main street in his personal vehicle, get out and walk away! When I spoke to the Mayor in person; I stated "Mayor, you nor I would ever park so blatently like this without a care or an once of respect for anyone"!

This guy feels that he is the TOP GUN! This is the leader! I don't know who he is or even if he is a cop! My guess is that he is a cop and he is a Sgt,LT or a captain active or retired! He has been around for awhile as he feels that he is the ultimate ruler/leader of the city!He is friends with cadilac man obrien!

The two shared a pow wow yesterday at the club. I don't know either man but I can tell that they feel very powerful and should be watched!

I would appreciate it if someone could tell me who this man is and why nobody has talked to him? Is he armed? Well he shouldn't be!

His license should be taken and he should be intently watched! He also happens to be part of the group who have been following me around! I have given the description of the other pick up truck that has followed us as it is parked in the lot at the police station! I see you! You are a cop!

How do you know if OJ is guilty or not? So, you just figure that he must be guilty? Most of the evidence was planted! You can't convict under these terms! No way! Our justice system would have taken a back seat to the system in Communist China!

People are too narrow minded! Are you ok with the fact that an innocent man was put to death in texas during the Bush governorship? Are you one of those that feel that it is ok if a few innocent people are executed? What do you do, just hope and pray that it isn't you nor a family member that gets executed as an innocent man?

This article is far from being objective. I have met with the chief and find him to be hard nosed and arrogant. Chicken poop is what the article is. Yes I agree with some of the point in the article but lets get real. Chief D is no JC as it suggests. He still serves at the fancy of the Mayor and will not cross her. I have met many of the cops and they seem very straight. Some puff out there chests but most are down to earth. They have a tough job. Arresting one of their own is not easy as they rely on each other to watch their back.
Again I'm not a big fan of the chief or mayor but the force in general is good.
