All I can say is that if what Bout Time says is true, these guys need to suffer the consequences. Believe me, if an everyday citizen was caught doing this, they would be punished. Just because they are cops does not mean they are above the law. What I hate is that they are being paid while the investigation continues. I'm sure this is protocol, but they should all be on unpaid leave and if they are found to be innocent, then they should receive their pay for the days they were put on leave.

sounds like a severe management problem to me. How is it that such things were going on and not being aware of by the Chief? or the previous chief ? for that matter.

I agree with you. All the officers the under-aged drinker (age 20?) and the brass all know better. It is my understanding that the Deming Police Department has had many embarrassing black eyes in the past. And I also understand that the same brass/rank has been running the show.

I recall when Mayor Silva was elected; Mayor Silva had an opportunity to change command (Police Chief). Instead Chief Carrillo was one of the first officials Mayor Silva publicly announced he was keeping without consideration of change (something of that nature I recall).

Too many things are missing from the "headless" artical to make a good call.I trust half of what the Deming Headlit prints, only a fifth of "Spinned Stories" missing most if not all of the basic information such as this one. What I do think happened with the PD is something. Criminal? maybe. Civil? maybe. How do we know for sure if anything happened at all? We don't because the Hedless has again missed the boat in accurate news reporting.

Carrillo is a taking appropriate steps, to protect the investigation, to protect the innocent officers if they are, and is well versed in what he needs to do as the Chief... unless he was there at this party with the officers as they served alcohol to this minor...(and I doubt that he was)... IF THIS IS EVEN THE REASON. It may be different... say like abusing a person who was placed under arrest or violation of a policy or proceedure.

Just because a new Mayor takes office does not mean that he needs or should replace the existing administration... if they have been doing their jobs.

The laws permit "removal of at will" job,s but that don't make it right. Examples: When Bush fired the 8 or so US Disctrict Attorneys and compare that to when Clinton took office and replaced ALL of Them.

Bit*hin at the Chief when then Chief is doing what he was hired to do? That right now is putting the horse before the cart.
I he didn't suspend the officers involved in this mess... THEN BIT*H...and if they are arrested for a crime, and the Chief takes no action... BIT*H LOUDER...

And if they are CONVICTED (like Officer Robert Valenzuela of the Columbus Police Fiasco Police Department for DWI 2nd offense), and the Chief takes no action... fire the Chief after the city fires the CONVICTED police officers.

Now heres what I really think Topix should focus on.
#1. What are the odds DA Newell will screw up the criminal case against a police officer in her district? Right now... according to her history about 100 percent.
#2. What are the odds the police officers enter into a pre-prosecution case with this DA? 100 percent...since that is her current rate or return on bad cops and or political coruption.

The Chief is not a baby sitter. He has more things to do than baby sit grown ups. I think you guys are hurt because you probably were violating the law in Deming and got caught. Pendejos!!!

The Chief needs to be replaced, just like he was run out of Grant County when he was Sheriff there.

The Deming Headlight hasn’t reported case specifics nor hinted of the allegations. Can’t spin a story that has no information to spin.
Keep in mind, that the longer the alleged wrong doings are represses from the public the more the story is kept alive.

Chief Carrillo is probably playing it to safe at this point. The public has a reasonable expectation of excellent communication. Saying that he does not know what the nature of the charges are is bogus. As a professional, that statement does not instill the publics trust. The chief has to walk a fine line supporting his police force and answering to the public. His caliber is expected to know that.

I agree with your statement,“Just because a new Mayor takes office does not mean that he needs or should replace the existing administration... if they have been doing their jobs.” However, when incidents like this happen accountability runs all the way to the top. One just asks them selves, what is going on? Why the poor moral? Why does the public view the department in a specific light? Does the Chief have a system that allows public information flow?

It is unfortunate that you read into my statement as,“Bit*hin at the Chief” because that was not the intent. I was simply reflecting.

This type of behavior is a direct reflection of the leadership within this City. These activities are heard of, mentioned, and brought to the attention of those able to correct them. But, instead the issues are ignored so that the City can maintain inadequate personnel for your false sense of security.
We have gone too long allowing the Chief of Police to continue making these mistakes. Mistakes? Not taking the necessary action when faced with these problems. And Mistakes in continually hiring these type of police officers.
Now is the time, City Officials/Mayor, to listen to the voices of our community and correct this problem. This will continue until you recognize that the person that you have placed in charge to protect our citizens does not care.
Deming, there are some good, respectful, and knowledgable deputies and police officers. But we cant expect these good ones to want to stay in this community if they are not protected by the very leaders they answer to.
So, City Officials/Mayor, now is the time to correct these problems and shoot for a change. A change in leadership for those not taking on the tasks and continually hiding behind the excuse of having "No Idea". A change for those officers who take their positions seriously and hold themselves with high integrity. And a change for our community who deserve better service than what this Police Chief is providing.

Federal law requires that Public Employees are to be paid while on suspension until the have had a hearing on the merits of the case against them. This will be interesting if a Laudermill hearing is held because I don't think Deming has ever conducted one and probably wouldn't even know where to begin.

The Chief is not a leader either. There has been a severe problem for quite some time but it has been swept under the rug so many times there is a permanent lump where you wipe your feet.

You’re EXACTLY right! But what’s so UNFORTUNATE about this whole situation is that the GOOD, RESPECTFUL, & KNOWLEDGABLE officers are always unrecognized because Deming’s Chief &City Administrators are always covering up for the stupid & irresponsible officers! This is an unfortunate situation for the Few Good Officers out their…So lets not forget to thank the ones who ACTUALLY have a brain and know RIGHT from WRONG! As for the ones who don’t…This is not their first nor last time acting irresponsible….so just like the Good O’ Boys got what they deserved…now its your turn! Life sucks on the other side of the cuffs now doesn’t it BOYS!

You are so right and I am one of the first ones to lose sight of the fact that there are a few quality Officers in Deming who are dedicated and perform their job for the citizens of Deming.

Well now that you have sold out your "uncle" Im sure they can do their own investigation and find out just exactly who he is. Good job! People like you are why this town would die if they didnt have anything to talk about. You should thank these people for giving you something to do and talk about.
I don't think he was wrong for telling us what he knew. If any of us were to be investigated our names and our faces would be all over the news and in the papers. And then when we are proven not guilty, and we have spent $20,000 for that attorney that we should have never had to hired to begin with, do you think the news will run an article telling the people what really happened, I don't think so, in fact I know for a fact they won't. So just like the public, these officers deserve to have their names bashed just like the public.
