Thank you for posting this...
As a skin cancer educator, I'm constantly bombarded with questions from concerned parents and others who want to know why there aren't any stipulations that require sunscreens to provide the protection they claim. A majority of the sunscreens on the market today fail to protect adequate protection against both UVA and UVB rays. In fact, there is only one sunscreen product manufactured here in the U.S. that strictly adheres to the Australian standards governing quality sun protection in sunscreens.
With skin cancer growing faster than any other cancer, and killing another American every hour (melanoma kills another person in the U.S. every 68 minutes), you would think that our leaders would support measures that help protect people from this unnecessary yet growing epidemic.
Regulating sunscreens is not an attack on the cosmetics industry, rather ensuring that products provide adequate protection and maintaining truth in advertising.
Thanks again for this post. I'll have to mention it on my blog, where sunscreen is a frequent topic of conversation.

Danielle,
You are so right about the SPF. I just emailed the Skin Cancer Foundation a letter telling them they need to update their recomended products. I beleave there are only about 2 out of 50 or so that have borad spectrum portection both UVA and UVB. I have had no respose and probably won't. Anyway thanks for the good work. I have just started a web site charting my use of Carac Cream for AK's. I hope you get a chance to look at it.
