There are 4 comments on the Overlawyered story from Aug 30, 2011, titled EEOC: drinking history no reason to withhold heavy trucking jobs. In it, Overlawyered reports that:

This is an example of too much government involvement in the Business World. On one hand, the transportation department demands through regulations that the trucking companies maintain an exceptional level of safety. On the other hand, the EEOC demands that a self professed alcoholic be kept behind the wheel. Where or when will we develop some basic common sense and let businesses police their employees. After all they are the ones with all the risk not Uncle Sam!! It's no wonder that businesses are hesitant to hire new workers or expand their business. In this climate, it's probably best to close shop and wait for another useless STIMULUS!!! By the way if you read the other articles following this; you'll notice that Old Dominion is raising rates. Could that be in reaction to this stupid lawsuit???? Enough said

Here our industry is held up to the utmost safety standards there are.

With a lawsuit like this, trucking companies might as well throw in the towel if we're going to have to deal with drunks and stoners getting behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle.

Can you imagine how insurance rates would skyrocket?
Could you imagine the increase of accidents and fatalities if a trucking company cannot protect the public because of this idiotic lawsuit?

What has become of our country?
