This just isn't right. Wallin-Reed is getting the same sentence as an armed bank robber. So, when is the DA going to charge the punks in the car with criminal trespass, larceny, terrorism, and moving vehicle violations?

Helen, you're as delusional as Mr. Wallin-Reed and his wife. So glad this jury didn't fall for that stand your ground bs defense. He gunned down men because he's a paranoid, pissed off lunatic with a gun. Lying murderer. Loved the talking points the children were given in their tv interview. It went with the theme of daddy's story and what Mrs. Insane Too said...they were terrorized. They claimed to be afraid for their safety at their cabin. So why did they return year after year? Why didn't they build a fence on their property? So stupid young men made a stupid decision to steal a sign and solar lights. That's not a death sentence. Only in Mr. Insane and Mrs. Insane Too's eyes. Justice served for the true victims, especially Rory McGuire. Be rid of these nuts.

You don't get the death penalty for stealing a solar light. It's not right, it's theft, but it is surely NOT terrorism.
Chasing people 8 miles down the road is not 'standing your ground' nor is it protecting your family or property which was left 8 miles away.
He obviously lied about thinking they had a gun, or else he never would have left his vehicle to circle their vehicle.
He took his sweet time to report, and didn't even bother to ask the 911 operator for an ambulance for them.
The jerk belongs in jail.

Never heard of this case before I watched it on Dateline last night. Something told me this fool was KICKED out of the military. Something told me his wife is a little off as well. He strikes me as one of those anti law,gun obsessed weirdos. I also KNEW he was never a Ranger. Rangers don't have to talk about it 24/7 to prove that it really happened. Who gets so bunged out over a car driving up their driveway? People turn around in my driveway-should I go outside and fire a warning shot? Were their kids named Darlin and Delta? The kids seemed a lil off too, and what about wearing Ranger patches on his uniform? He's where he belongs.I'm only surprised he didn't finish the job when he got out of the truck.

I agree 100% with you! My husband was an Army Colonel and we knew immediately that there was something wrong with Chad Wallin-Reed when he was trying to explain his story. My husband said, "No way was he an Army Ranger". Turns out---he lied! His poor children were so brain washed and his wife was too. Hopefully, the family will heal psychologically and be able to see how terribly sick Chad Wallin Reed is and be able to move on in a less dysfunctional life! My sympathies to Rory McGuire's mom and dad. Such a heartbreaking situation that never should have happened.

According to what I read, the car did not have plates. I know the area. It is extremely isolated and no phones. There is one main road. I can't believe he was able to shoot and drive with a light in his eyes as the road is narrow and curvy. Still, he should have stayed at his home and waited until when and if they tried to enter the home. All that said, after watching the denial of the young man about the group having a gun, my gut told me he was being deceitful about something. Guns are plentiful in this area as hunting and fishing are major activities. Plus there are three prisons, an Army base, and lots of forestry type employment. It would be foolish to assume home owners are not armed. These weren't a group of young teens. These were young adults looking for trouble, not someone using the driveway to turn around. They were there over the sign, not the lights. They were taunting the homeowner. It was a tragedy that was preventable by both parties.

I was perplexed as to why the guest's observation and what the four other men had to say was not addressed. That is the problem with these programs. Left with more questions than answers.

Truthie (LOL!) Why do you feel the need to attack another commenter and the children? State your opinion on the case and move on. Because, when I read your comment, you sound like a "paranoid, pissed off lunatic!" But instead of having a gun, you use your bullying words. Chill the hell out idiot!

QUOTE <quoted text>-- you suggset he could have killed the 6 and go back home, tell the wife " they will never be coming back" report to police he lost them.
Also his lawyer, eating up quickly his family fortune and letting him down in jail for life , picking the wrong jurors. This is about life or death ,no Lawyer can speak for Chad,Chad should never signed mandate to any lawyer.

Army rangers handbook it says:" Ennemy contact, maintain contact strive for an opportunity to eliminate /neutralize the threat !"

You can "stand your ground" at your property. You CANNOT chase someone for 8 miles off of your property and shoot them. Whether in a car or on foot or any other way. That is MURDER. Chad is a very sick individual and belongs in jail. He was not defending his property or family when he went after those young people. And he was NOT an Army Ranger. He is a liar and a murderer. He is in jail where he belongs.

Just watched dateline episode of this case. "Chad Wallin-Reed" is definitely where he belongs!!! After many years of working in the legal system, sure I'm disgusted with the "justice system" for so many dysfunctional attorneys, detectives, etc. as I have seen it's not 100% correct and too many with a badge and law degree are dishonest!! But, in this case....I defintely believed the prosecutor and the detectives as they were very professional and their demeanor was commendable!! "Chad" was so dispicable the first time I even heard him speak! And I agree with the folks who commented that the wife and the children sound "off" in the way they spoke. I was disgusted just listening to the wife...she sounded like a robot brainwashed idiot that would have been a perfect wife for "Warren Jeffs" as she was so meek and spoke in such a limp manner which comes across like those "Stepford Wives" in the "Warren Jeff's" messed up life style!! Hearing "Chad" ramble on and on blaming his military life as being the way to handle the situation was such a coward's way of trying to get away with his lunatic mental brain set. He's a liar and he definitely belongs in prison for life!!! My condolences go out to Rory McGuire's mom!! Sure, her son was in the wrong place and acting immature, but that does not mean he was a bad guy. Everyone does stupid, immature things but that doesn't mean they should be killed or even shot at!!!!! There is no happy ending for anyone in this unfortunate night for the boys out for a night of just looking to have some fun and then it turned into a nightmare by a maniac with too many guns and no brains. It's no wonder the military kicked him out!!! "Chad" is psychotic and should be kept in prison for life with no parole!!!!

Truthie 775 has made a wonderful summation and I agree with Truthie 775!!! Well done Truthie 775!!! It's a free country in the USA and being critical of someone's comments is ridiculous!! If you don't agree with a person's comments...YOU SHOULD LET IT GO AND KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!!! IT'S THE ONLY THING THAT YOU SHOULD SLING YOUR NASTY COMMENTS TOWARDS. "DON'T SHOOT THE MESSENGER!!!"

Does the United States stand our ground in the United States? No we go over and personally deliver the message of " you will not encroach upon our freedom to live without fear" by bombing the crap out of their country. You judgmental sheep are constantly turning your back on people who are exercising their right to exist here in our country. You forget that this is what makes this country so great.
It's all Chad's fault huh? He should've just stayed home and went to bed let these punks steal everything he worked hard for. Let them strip his family of their personal security. Oh he should've done this and he should've done that. Blah Blah Blah
Those young men chose to take the chance of facing the consequences that may or may not occur for trespassing, stealing and terrorizing a family. As far as I'm concerned the ones who survived are lucky.
If Chad was such a blood hungry murderer then why not kill all of them and leave no witnesses behind to testify against his self defense plea? Quit believing the media about everything people! That's why our country is falling apart. The media only shows what they want us to see and believe. WAKE UP!!

I watched the same show and didn't once hear Chad blame anything on anyone, especially not the army. Why are so many of you so quick to judge people as if you really know them from a clip on the news that is all of about 5 minutes? Did any of you bother to do any research on the so called victims and see what kind of people they were? I did and I can tell you these victims were looking for trouble not a good time. You people need to quit being so ignorantly judgmental.
I am sad for the family that lost a loved one but I have no sympathy for the "victim"
I am more sad that a family has been torn apart and the media has fooled the public into thinking that this man is a crazed killer.

I couldn't of said this better myself...
But let me add, I'm from that small hick town known as Susanville and let me say one thing. Those guys were up to no good that night and I would of done the same thing Wallen-Reed did to protect myself and family.
My question for you, would you just let it go or would you protect yourself, family, and/or property?

Regardless---You cannot chase someone down and shoot them for any reason. I know what you are trying to say. But, even if those young people came into Chad's house and shot at them with a gun---and then somehow managed to get away from Chad with the same scenario happening---Chad still did not have the right to chase them down and shoot them at a different location. That is vigilante justice and is murder. He would still be charged with murder. These young people stole a light of some kind from his fence post. You cannot kill them for that crime. The criminal justice system is flawed and I understand the frustration with feeling victimized and violated from someone stealing from you. But, you absolutely cannot kill them for that. Not all of the kids in that car stole the light either. It only took one to do that and they all weren't guilty of stealing the light. Chad handled it all wrong because he felt violated. You can only shoot someone if you are in a situation where you could be killed by the other person. Chad was the pursuer. Those young people could have shot him and they would be innocent of murder because he was coming after them. You can't kill someone for stealing. End of story.
