It's been my experience that the officials at the schools are only interested in their test scores and how your child contributes to that number. It's only going to get worse with the new 'Core Standards' as each child will be assessed several times a year. How is this setting our children up to succeed?

My child (and several of his friends), went from straight A's at Glenwood to failing or barely passing at Jefferson. Jefferson is one of very few middle schools that start in fifth grade and yet our kids are being treated as if they are slow.

I know two parents that had to transfer their children out of Robertsville due to the drug situation at that school.

With the loss of another million in funding this year it's probably not getting better.

Truth is, most of the current school board needs to be replaced. They're living in the past, and are just on the BOE to stroke their own egos. New leadership is badly needed.

The school board and he principals all need to be replaced, along with some of the teaches at Robertsville. They don't care if your child is being bullied or if your child needs a little extra help. These schools leave a LOT to be desired.

Also, please break the Carringer/Green/Goins connection at principal and hire someone who doesn't have anything to do with any of them. A novel concept: a STRONG principal who won't buckle with every parent or special interest complaint. Cheerleader issue ring a bell?

you've got big problems....a couple of agenda-driven school board members are blocking athletic hires left and right. All you know what is about to break loose.

In her letter to Borchers, Baughn referenced a May 9 memo from Akagi to City Manager Mark Watson in which Akagi said school personnel have “been reluctant at best, and in some instances obstructive in their interaction” with police.

Watson in a memo addendum mentioned examples where police haven’t been contacted promptly on “matters of drugs, guns and other dangers in school.”

Beehan said police have established a “whole new protocol” for beefing up school security but declined to elaborate.

“We see no need to broadcast our plans to the world,” he said.

Efforts to improve relations between the schools and police are underway, he said.

The mayor expressed concern about the lingering effects of Baughn’s remarks on the school system.“When people go to Google Oak Ridge Schools, this is going to come up,” he said.

"Pride goes before a fall." Come on Oak Ridge Schools/City Council, open up with the public about the situation. It would seem to me if Oak Ridge Schools/City Council published their plans, those plans would be found in the "googling process" also.

It's because of neighborhoods like "The Valley" and the people in them, even those who have graduated and moved away. I've seen several of my classmates move away and spread the drug culture around where they are. Cookeville's drug problem has grown exponentially since late 2007.I think everyone knows who I am talking about here.
