I would imagine his own guilt and grief will punish him more than a trial and monetary penalties.

Absolutely....there is no need for legal action. I cannot fathom what he and his family are going through....there is no need for punishment of any kind!!

What a truly horrible event !!

How can you forget your kid in the truck . You must know the family .If that was anyone else we would be in jail. I hope the father EVERY DAY REMEMBER how he left his child in a truck to die.

And I'm sure he will, halfwit.

Now it does seem to be an accident. I can't imagine what the man is going through. I would hope that the law would leave him alone. But then on that same token, since they do seem to be leaving him alone I wonder who he knew or was in good with. If it were anyone else they would be locked away for the counties amusement and smeared on the media based on questionable court and police documents while being made out like Charles Manson. But thumbs up for Vigo County and the police for actually understanding this with empathy instead of jumping to negative conclusions without knowing the facts. I hope to see more working together like this with the county and the normal folks.

I'm gonna make a statement. I don't know the people involved. However the comments you are making about who he knew or how could he ...are not needed I BET THOSE OF YOU MAKING THE COMMENTS DON'T HAVE CHILDREN. How dare you judge, and act like you would never do that.

Hmmmmm, a full investigation shows no evidence of any illegalities and some idiot wonders WHO the bereaved parent knows. Why ASSume it was because of connections with someone downtown? It could just be because there is no reason to file charges.

Ok, so he is distraught, feeling sorrow for him seems to be the norm here. Why have I not read about any sorrow for the child that died? it was a human life, taken by the actions of another. No matter the grief of the father, it was a human life, and he was responsible for that life. The safety and well being of any child is to be a parents number one priority, no exception, no excuses. For every one who says that they can understand how this could happen, your child's life is in apparent danger because of you ability to forget your are a parent. Charges should have been filed for allowing the death of a human being to happen.
Doesn't it seem that this could open the door to any parent that thinks about purposely doing such an act,( they are out there, don't kid yourself ), and no worries about being held responsible.

Definition of INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER

INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER: resulting from the failure to perform a legal duty expressly required to safeguard human life, from the commission of an unlawful act not constituting a felony, or from the commission of a lawful act in a negligent or improper manner.

All sounds real good if you prefer a weak prosecutor. That child needs justice!

I don't know the family however I do know someone who is close to the family and believe me the father is devastated and sometimes criminal charges are not filed because a crime was not committed. It was horrid thing that happened and we should leave that family alone and maybe pray for them.

You are right, the father is devastated and inconsolable. The mother put the child in his truck and because of some miscommunication the father wasn't aware of that.

Wow, you should read my posts more carefully, I don't think incarceration is the solution for every poster. Just those who earned it.

Greg Meyer What Papaw really means by "earned it" is anyone he doesn't like. Not like someone like Courtney Scott or the cops that ripped off the United Way because people like that in his blind eyes can never "earn it". He most likely knows the family.

No numbskull, I don't personally know the family and I never upheld Scott's miserable excuse either. Wright overestimated his clout and arrogantly played judge and jury for Scott. It did come back to bite him in the butt, tho.
The family who lost the toddler seem to be decent, hard working people with average parenting skills unlike the undisciplined, uneducated, no common sense asshats who think they should always get their own way.
Pay attention if you want to play Bash the Poster. What I dislike and believe should be eradicated is ignorance and chosen stupidity.

something kind of not quite right here. These things happen frequently. There was a certain big shot in town many years ago who turned his back and let his kid fall in a pool, become brain damaged, etc. All sympathy was with this man. There is a serious flaw in the system here. A woman didn't tell her husband the kid was in the car? Then the man let the kid die because he didn't know he was there? Very questinable parenting lapse, folks. Somebody is getting let off very gently. Well, maybe the poor kid is better off without such uncaring, uninvolved parents.

That's kind of what I said here too. Not that I want the man put in jail over an accident but had it been someone less well connected the police wouldn't have been so sympathetic and the offender would be punished to the maximum extent of the law and beyond charged with all kinds of serious crimes to be vindictive. You are right this is a flaw in the way that the system picks and chooses who to play god with and who to let of Scott free. Yes all sympathy with this man who probably feel really bad about now.
