It's not welcome here but if they keep getting rid of the police officers willing to arrest the dealers it will overtake the town.

Not understanding what the size of the town has to do with the amount of heroin use. I don't believe it was luck, but feel free to keep believing that if you choose to. Why would anyone want to lose the luck then? Yeah lucky for us they were caught. Unlucky we lost a good officer that didn't care who you were related to or friends with, if you broke the law you were treated the same as anyone else. It's a shame people won't stand & fight for what is right. Fight for this town & make it a safe drug free place to raise our kids. It can be done, you just have to want it bad enough & have the balls to stand up for what is right.

I've been looking at some of these topix from Punxy and am seriously wondering if there isn't something wrong with our education process. I have never seen such spelling errors in my life. It is not just you mister g. These aren't typing errors. I think a good time weekend would be better spent reading and learning.

Born & raised right outside of Harrisburg, PA but having lived in Punxsutawney a few months with one of those arrested, I can say that I have never come across a town such as Punxsutawney. For one, there is almost nothing in that town to keep kids/teenagers occupied - no mall, movie theatre, etc. I'm not suprised these young adults felt they needed to turn to drugs as "something to do" or "fun" <- not to mention knowing 4 out of the 10 arrested, in my opinion, with the way they grew up and how their parents pretty much gave up on them or didn't disiplin them enough when they should have...i'm really not suprised.

All in all, it's just a sad situation

Hold on there Outsider! There is plenty to do in Punxsy, the movie theater is at the Community Center, many of the churches have youth groups, there is a group at the high school that goes skiing, there is a skate park and hockey rink. Heck, they can even volunteer at some of the many community help agencies. Sure, Punxsy isn't a big city, but there is lots of things for a "kid" to do.

Eh, those things wouldn't interest me. Maybe the trouble makers were the same way?

That's the problem, right there. Those aren't things to do, just like working at Burger King isn't 'a career' but folks in Punxsy (who want a retirement village, not a town) think that's enough of an effort. I'm living proof, it is NOT enough effort. Left as soon as humanly possible, never came back. Wake up.

No offense Lawyer, but isn't going to the movies something to do? Isn't being a part of a youth group something to do? Riding a skateboard is something to do?
There are a lot of sports teams available at the school, there are clubs at the school. There are girl scouts and boy scouts. There is a gym at the community center. There are volunteer opportunities with some local fire companies.
Some of the churches offer sports, like volleyball, in the winter.
Isn't all this something to do?

It's just that those things aren't "cool" enough for kids who think they need to slog down Budweiser every Friday night to fit in.

Nothing to do? Come on , that crap is used every time a kid is bored and doesn't want to take the time to use their brain to come up with something fun to do. I'm 5th generation here in Punxsy and have never wanted to live anywhere else. I have vacationed other places and found them less than what a home town can be. Like the above have mentioned there are things here to do besides drugs and drinking. Now if you want to put forth and effort thats a different question. Also I really don't think spelling should have anyting to do with a person's veiw. Your right I am one of the world's worst spellers . Find a lawyer sue me. It's just something I've never been able to grasp. But am I stupid? I never felt like it , never let it keep me from what I wanted to do , but never enjoyed the fact either. But when some people have trouble with reading or math I never feel the need to point it out to them and make them feel less than who they are because of it. Bulling in schools, hmmm wonder where it starts?
