... with more of Massachusetts taxpayers's dollars on issues that do not help the economic well-being of this state and its citizens, comes A.G. Coakley's lawsuit. I guess there isn't enough crime and corruption on Bunko Hill for her to worry about. I guess the current economic morass doesn't affect her ... and she needs a powerful PAC in her PACPocket should she decide to follow in the footsteps of some former A.G.'s and run for governor. She might as well go after something politically and socially hot, rather than deal with real issues in this state.

I wonder how much this is going to cost me and my family, along with every other special interest this state chases down.

Well, someday you are going to have to lose the tax subsidies that you demand from gay couples, so you might as well learn to stand on your own feet.

Discrimination on a federal level costs same sex families much more than equality will ever cost you.

Only rank, inbred, hom skooled bigots think basic equality amounts to a "special interest."

What I find compelling about DOMA, is that it had been signed into law by then President William J. Clinton. Seems like he fell on the sword when signing this into law..

Former President George W. Bush, was disliked by many that were gay, but truthfully he never really did do any harm to them. Furthermore I believe it was his Presidency that may have helped lead the way for gay rights. So DOMA should be dismantled as it does not represent the freedoms and rights of all American citizens.

I find these groups that are opposed to gay marriage somewhat confusing, as for many years it has been recognized in many states sex changes, that seem to be unopposed by just a few who do not understand it. I don't understand it either but on the other hand I am still trying to set the time on my microwave and VCR.

Oh' I am God believing but atheist when it comes to the church. This because the church is within all of us in some form, and is not specific to any building or corner stone. In California the voters took to the poles to structure discrimination into law yet is weighing the legalization of marijuana. I am all for it provided that on the day any voting pole opens voters must be stoned before casting their votes. Of course I think this has been happening already.

why the hell should anyone have to hide in a closet or lose out on hundreds of advantages provided by the federal government for married couples, just because of their orientation? Our attorney general and GLAD aren't the ones blowing things out of proportion...the feds did that when they decided to curtail basic rights which should be afforded to EVERY CITIZEN IN THIS COUNTRY. Keep your personal prejudices to yourselves. When government decided to extend its jurisdiction over marriage quite some time ago, it should have then become a basic right afforded to every citizen of legal age along with the benefits which accompany it. How shameful that a couple in this country who maybe have been together and lasted longer than most marriaged couples are barred from making emergency medical decisions for one another, or receiving any kind of death benefits simply because their gay. Anyone who's ever had to face discrimination either due to race, sex, age, etc., should take a strong look at this situation and realize that is what is going on here, legal discrimination. It's appalling.

Because being gay is a mental illness and is not natural. Men and women were meant for each other. Even if you don't beleive in the Bible you have to see that. Man to man and woman to woman just doesn't fit.

I know we won't change your views, but perhaps you should think about how you express them. It is accepted scientific FACT that we are not mentally ill.

I don't know if the same can be said about you. I'll assume you're brainwashed otherwise there is no explanation for not being able to observe the natural world around you objectively.

you know, it strikes me as hypocritical.....people complaining about the cost of these "benefits" (I pay the max into social security every year...I have paid for this benefit!)....or saying their beliefs require them to support DOMA, or calling equal rights "special interests".

What happened to states rights? Why aren't all the conservatives standing up and screaming bloody murder at the federal government for ignoring mass laws? DOMA is a slap in the face to anyone who believes in a small federal government.

Conservatives, wake up! Are you comfortable portraying this two-faced position? I know the answer...look at the abortion debate.

this is basically a states rights issue. mass settled the equal protection issue. unfortunately we'll have to argue both at the federal level, and with the Pope in charge of the supreme court, I don't have high hopes....

Come down here and I'll show you how it fits. Or you can just accept that I think your opinion is discriminatory.

If someone else was heading this suit, I might believe the intentions were good, however Martha Coakley the same AG that has looked the other way far too often since she took office is strictly grandstanding and looking for support if or when she runs for US Senate. She has been an embarrassment as an AG.

Tom - Your so right, but my understanding of the Bible is Adam was created before Eve, which begs the question what Adam did before hand. Oops, no pun intended about the hand.

The point I would like to make, is neither you or I have a right to stand in judgement in place of GOD. The world has its imperfections and one of those has to do with children that go hungry and die of needless disease. Many may not be able to except gay men and women but they have been just as long as the black man and women. Just they seem to blend in better. As for the bible it can be interpreted in so many ways, maybe this is why GOD wrote the commandments in stone. I will not knock any faith or persons belief including yours. I would hope in time things will change in your opinion. Especially how you equate mental disease with being gay, furthermore maybe Adolf Hitler would have agreed with you.

Pat, I don't know what she's looked the other way on, so perhaps you have a strong point.

But, please, these are our rights the government has refused us. Mass gave us marriage licenses and for the entire history of this country, that was respected. Now it isn't. This is a major conservative issue, if conservatives had any you-know-whats.

So have your opinion about our AG, but this case is extrememly important to us and not at all granstanding.

When our government stands up for your right to continue painting, I will respect your need to have that right, not belittle the effort. It is common courtesy.
