Unauthorized Cell Phone Charges Class Action Investigation: mQube

If you were charged on your cell phone bill by m-Qube for ringtones or other mobile content that you never authorized or ordered from mqube, you might want to get in touch with some class action attorneys who are investigating unauthorized cell phone charges:

My most recent bill from AT&T (formerly Cingular) contains a charge from m-Qube Inc. It's a $19.99 charge. For some reason AT&T said the charges can show up again and need be removed again. It was explained to me how these charges get on the bill. This "negative" type of advertising is directed to teens that just don't know when they accepet the "free" download they are signing up for a subscription service. They may then get an email asking them to decline this service if they don't want it. The teen (or another person) then thinks "I didn't sign up for a subscription" and ignores the message. This is a terrible way to make money off of hard working people.

So, even if you request that AT&T block all avenues for a child to run up a phone bill other than going over the minutes limit, they won't block this "direct bill" option that m-Qube uses to bill our phones. I told AT$T, "no internet, not anything taht will make my bill more than the monthly charge". It did not happen. It looks as if they might credit my account, NEXT MONTH, after I pay them this month. You have to call and have a block put on this direct bill option to prevent this from occurring. I think this is dishonest. It was tricky to find out what this charge was or even find it in the bill. it was almost hidden! Shame shame!

I also received this charge on my bill. I recently signed up with AT & T (again) for my son and when I received this charge the first time, I let it go but warned my son about downloading "stuff" to his phone. He agreed. Well, my 2nd bill came with 4 more charges from M-Qube, Inc. This time I was furious with him! He denied downloading and so I called AT & T to find out what this was and to get more information (In my mind, I was still furious w/my son). They could not really give me information except to say that it's a 3rd party download. The gal on the phone was nice enough, though, to credit my account for ALL of the m-Qube charges. She did not tell me, though, that there are numerous problems with this company. I highly recommend that you contact AT&T should you receive m-Qube charges. This is really awful.

I just finished talking to a AT&T rep, I'm just one more person that is trying to avoid rediculous charges, AT&T really has to get their game together and do something about M-QUBE, INC...I got charge for something i never downloaded, and it just get me that we have to waist our time trying to get this straight. It's really sad that merchants like M-QUBE, inc are trying to make money of people like you or me...

I just signed up with ClassActionConnect. Have they contacted you? I found them by searching "m-Qube inc." on Google. They were the #1 hit. Has anyone else tried or heard back form CAC? I'm curious if they are actively pursuing m-Qube or if it's just a scam to get my info.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not alone. I'm prone to go ovesr minutes so I thought nothing of the higher charge I was paying... for three months. I finally noticed the $19.99 under "other" and called AT&T for details. I don't know if the word of the day was 'ignorance', but nobody knew anything. Finally on the 4th call I got mqube out of them. Actually, what the AT&T rep said was, "M-cube, they're actually a pretty good company." The rep said I'd get a refund in one or two billing cycles if m-cube signed a form, "which they normally do".

My next call was to M-Cube where the m-cube rep said, "I wish AT&T would stop telling people that, we don't issue refunds." Of course calling m-cube wasn't a pleasure. It took 10 minutes of circular call options and hearing, "I don't handle complaints" (thankfully a helpful co-worker encouraged me not to give up) before I finally found a rep who would take complaints. The m-cube rep was incredibly useful at telling me how no refunds could be issued and how careless I probably was to be getting charged, but he couldn't tell me the third party who was charging me.

Eventually the m-cube rep said he'd cancel the charges, but there was just no way he could tell me who was charging because "there are hundreds of companies". I don't believe I've ever heard such utter bull Sh%&. They expect me to believe they don't know who they are billing for and passing funds to?

I have no faith that I will get a refund. I hope a class action ruins these con artists. My next stop - the MN attorney General's office.

Contact them via thi ssite and request to have messages sent to your phone number. They will also provide merchant info.

AT&T only credits 4 months worth of this service. The reminder, if needed, needs to be pursued via the "invisible" merchant which I hope is not invisible after contacting m-qube directly.

Hope this helps.~ J.

I had been charged $9.99 in July by M-Qube Inc. At that time I called AT&T and told them I had not authorized, nor downloaded anything. They insisted that I would have had to but I remained firm and they did reverse the charges by September. Well, my October/November bill had another charge of $9.99 by M-Qube Inc. I had been checking my bill to make sure that it was correct, and also because I was receiving text messages by a company called Enmob.com which kept texting me about Movies. The text messages started on 10/24. The text said "Enjoy your EnMob subcription, daily alerts billed at $9.99 per month. To quit, send STOP TO 26706. For more info. visit enmob.com 888-648-9524." I had already texted them to stop before this and I had already received 3 text messages on 10/24 that I had to pay for to read. They finally stopped on 10/27 w/the text message "You have successfully unsubscribed from Movie. for more info. call 888-864-9524. We hope you enjoyed the service."

By this time, I'm seeing RED!!! I did a "dogpile.com " search and found this site and another where there were laundry lists of similar complaints about M-Qube.

I filed a complaint w/http://www.ClassActionConnec t.com/ and also went to the FCC website and filled out a complaint for for wireless communication complaints. Today, I phoned AT&T to once again complain and demand my refund. Once again they said somehow I MUST HAVE downloaded a ringtone, ordered something off the internet on my phone, both of which I had never done. I told him to save the speech, that I knew that there was a huge problem w/this, that it has already happened to me in July and that I had already filed a complaint w/the FCC and ClassActionConnect. I must say that the AT&T rep never deviated w/his speech putting the responsibility on me. However, he did advise me that I could put a Parental Block on all 4 of my cell phones so that any ringtones or game downloads would need a pin that he would set up for me. Also, the ringtones, etc., would have to be billed to a credit card. So I went with the Parental Block....a pain in the neck, but obviously necessary. I have one phone, my husband has the other, and the other two belong to my 22 yr. old son and my 26 yr. old son....both of whom had not downloaded anything.

So,my advise to all is to file the complaint w/the FCC and fill out the form on www.ClassActionConnect.com , and to fight for your refund....don't take no for an answer, and then continue to monitor your phones, for someone on another blog said that one of his phones was missing for months and they didn't use it, yet they received billing for $9.99 on that phone on their bill from these scammers. DON'T GIVE UP...THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT US TO DO.

I had two charges on this month and last month's statements

1) Funmobile $19.99
2) CSW Group Limit $19.99

I did not subscribe to either service during either month.. costs totaling $79.96. I contacted AT&T immediately and after explaining the additional charges as well as many related Class Action Law Suits with m-Qube.. They credited my account for the total amount. In addition.. I would highly suggest requesting AT&T to put a "purchase blocker" on your mobile phone which requires you to enter a PIN# prior to purchasing/downloading any unwanted items. They will email the PIN# to you. NOTE: Check past bills and ask for credits for each charge.. If you're like me and most others.. you "ass"ume the charges are from texting or using too many minutes and with direct/online bill pay.. You never take notice of the business STEALING money. Good luck and Happy Holidays:)

I got 3 consecutive texts full of jokes that I did not subscribe to on October 25. I text this m-qube back to stop texting and they did. However, much to my surprise I was billed $9.99 for something I never even purchased. I just got off the phone with ATT and they said they will refund it. I hope it doesn't happen again. I'll be monitoring my phone bill.

Do you know that m-Qube was bought/is now owned by Verisign? The same company the provides digital security certificates used to validate identity on the internet is now associated with m-qube. So the next time you shop online remember who ensures you money is going where you think it is going. Answer, in most cases Verisign/m-Qube

I feel armagedon comming on.

Just noticed m-Qube Inc charge on my daughter's account. I thankfully Googled M-Qube and found all of these nasty customer ploys and the legal concerns raised. I immediately called ATT and complained and demanded these charges to be taken off the bill. I have not been very happy with ATT service, but they did a great job with fixing this one to my satisfaction! Also, I placed a block on downloads to any of the phones on my plan.
Thanks to all above!

I am talking to ATT rep now, I can not believe, all this years I have been charged $19.98 every month for last 2.5 years with out ATT or Cingular people letting me know about this scam. They are not refunding me for full amount. M-Qube, Inc. has been charging me $19.98 and not really letting me know about the charges.

I am in complete shock that ATT has not stopped this internally. M Qube must be stopped. This is unbelievable that these scam artists are getting away with it. They should not be allowed to be in ATT's system.

Wow! I'm so glad I found this site before having a blow out with my 16-year old. We have finally just given him his first phone and he had very strict rules/restrictions about its use. Imagine my surprise (and disappointment) when I found the $19.99 charge on our recent bill. I will most definitely phone AT&T and request a refund. When I tried to do at the att.com/directbill site, I got the message "refund denied exceeded number of refunds allowed within a specific time period"--strange since I've never requested a refund ever in our 10 years with AT&T. Thanks for all the information. Good luck to everyone!!

AT & T is refunding 3 months of charges - of course I doubt they will figure in the taxes applied to my bill. They apologized but didn't offer to refer me to anyone else in AT& T when I asked how I could find out how and why they allowed me to be signed up for a "subscription" without my knowledge - just answered "this sometimes happens". Wow!!
I never opened the text messages sent to my cell phone so never thought I would be charged for them - had a
