None of those would have stopped Newtown from happening. On a voluntary basis, a CHP and a further two-week training course to include shoot and don't shoot, clear backgrounds, etc., teachers should be allowed to be armed.

Tin signs declaring gun-free zones only invite killers of children, men and women, aka The Innocents.

Didn't that last 3 or so people that went into a school with guns blazing end up dead? So what's the new penalty going to be?:)

Providing a secure building will reduce the chance of illegal entry. A sally port at the front door will prevent tailgating of a killer behind a legal entry.

CLEARLY additinal penalties will do NOTHING. As will bigger signs etc. It's make it impossible for an entry into a loaded building AND having some weapons available so the staff has at least a chance to stop a manman.

RIP, Sandy Hook kids and staff. You guys are not sharing quarters with Adam Lanza.

Not disagreeing with the need to harden the target, but when some deranged villain calls in a bomb threat so the kids and staff evacuate, what will the sally port do for them?

Worthless. The Governor avoided the most important issue, putting armed instructors in the schools. New penalties wont stop a sick individual who wants to commit mayhem. Watered down pap to placate the masses.

You are right but current nut cases use a weapon and if you are able to keep them out of schools perhaps some might be deterred. We can only hope computer games won't be enhanced to include training on how to call in a bomb threat to a school and then execute the evacuated kids.

Idealy if each teacher had a defensive weapon, even a taser an individial threat would be reduced. And of course a taser is not a fatal weapon, in most cases, so the threat of injurious misuse is reduced.

For small towns simply moving the police HQ to the school would be a great improvement. The Cheif can be dunking dognuts at a school just as well as in a fancy PD HQ building off campus.

Of course it's important to remember the largest mass school murder was excuted in 1927 using explosives. The largest mass murder ever was the Jim Jones that killed 900+ with hundreds of kids, weapon was poisen.

Agreed.

Maybe I was thinking mass murders outside war where the Government sponsers the murdering.

We don't know if a Government provided weapon was used at Sandy Hook, probably never know with Mr hush hush "Bump in the road" as president.

..... I see the real "hush hush" as being more local. Blumenthal was A.G here for 20 years and robbed us blind. He has a lot of help in the state network including State Sen. John McKinney. It's easy for him to keep a lot of stuff under wraps and also to publicly lie since his fater-in-law owns a lot of media. I think NBC is a top one. What other tragedy has ever had even 1/10th of the publicity and circus this one has had?

In the frozen tundra we don't appreciate the powers that exist out east.

White House Blocks Petition Seeking Investigation into Psychiatric Drugs and Violence9A petition on the White House web site which calls for an investigation into the link between psychiatric medication and violence has been blocked after a week (out of the month allotted) in which it had garnered 6,635 of the 25,000 signatures needed. A videotaped response by President Obama, addressing issues of gun control, school safety, and mental health care (but not medication) has been placed on the petition’s page.
