Cemetery outcry grows

Full story: Chicago Tribune

The turmoil surrounding Burr Oak Cemetery near Alsip intensified Friday, as officials at all levels called for regulatory reform, horrified families filed lawsuits, and Emmett Till 's relatives discussed whether to again exhume his body from the cemetery for burial elsewhere.

Monsieur, There are hundreds if families affected. I have the obituaries to prove that my family is there and when they were put there. My mother has the card issued showing the lot number for her parents. This is very real and very painful. I went to visit my Grandmother, got the location and the map from the office and never found her. I went back at a later date to the same area and found her headstone, I believed I just overlooked it the first time but it didn't seem like where we placed her in the ground. I figured I was just grieving and mistaken but her shephard's hook my mother had installed wasn't there either. I now believe the headstone was moved. I don't know where my Grandmother's remains are but I pray her spirit is at rest. All I know is she didn't deserve to be disrespected in death, no one deserves this. It is hard on your heart to know someone who you loved and who loved you and took care of you was tossed to the side like garbage.

What a vile thing to do to the people buried in that cemetary! The four people responsible for desecrating these graves must be severely punished and fined for their horrific actions. Cemetaries are supposed to be our final resting place here on earth and noone but noone should be digging up the remains and treating them in such a horrible manner. My heart goes out the the families of the people who were buried there! Please severely punish these vile and greedy criminals! They deserve no mercy whatsoever!

Cemeteries disgust me. What a waste of good land. I'd much rather put grama's ashes in the rose bed and find a playground or park for the living where there now is a cemetery.

Couldn't there be a license system, like the cemetery has to pay the county for the number of plots it has, and an inspector has to approve before more plots are dug up? Then they can count the number of burials at the cemetery each year, and if it's more than the plots left, voila, you can fine the cemetery for unlicensed burials! Is there such a system in place? If not, why not, and why does it take a random citizen to think up of ways to regulate this industry rather than the paid officials?

Saddened,
You have my heartfelt sympathy. I certainly don't mean the truly injured should not get justice.
However this can certainly turn into a legal circus. Look at the post between ours, yammering about suing people who are probably least likely to be involved.
I hope your concerns are put to rest and that you get piece of mind.

I worked my way through college as a cemetery maintenance worker in Queens, NY, and I can't believe that a crime of this magnitude could take place undetected. The city of New York used to send inspectors out to our cemetery twice a year to ensure that the grounds were in compliance with city ordinances. The inspector would comb over every square inch of the cemetery, and even minor infractions would be subject to large fines unless ameliorated within 45-60 days.

So that naturally begs the question as to where was the city of Alsip was during all this? Why wasn't Burr Oak Cemetery subject to any kind of municipal scrutiny? Proper cemetery maintenance, after all, is a matter of public health....or should be.

There are no words for such a horrific act. I can't even wrap my mind around this. I don't see how in the heck they can live with themselve's. They have physically exploited family's wishes and mocked their grief. Their punishment(s) should contain the same ingredients. They violated BIG TIME!!!

Now, they may be able to handle the wrath of man, but I garauntee they can't handle the wrath of God; Who will exact FULL judgement!!!!

I don't get it. My grandfather passes away and we bury him. We erect a headstone at that location. How can one resell that grave and I don't notice when I go visit him that he is not at that location?

AJR,
You hit "Dead Center Mass"! None of the bastard's seemed to be doing any job's, oops, with the exception of theiving all day & all night!
I pray they are punished to the fullest extent of the law and that their day of reckoning come swiftly (just like Jeffrey Dahmer).
I'm sorry, but I am fresh out of mercy on this one.

I pray that the uneducated morons who post on this blog will someday have an epiphany and realize that they are the problem on this earth and do not have the sense to be a part of the solution. My heart goes out to all those who are experiencing difficult times right now with the Burr Oak tragedy. My prayers are with you all and even with the idiot who somehow ties in Burr Oak with the priesthood. Get a life... maybe you could locate a conscience as well.

And as far as the accusation that the Village of Alsip neglected it's duty in overseeing the cemetary, I believe that the cemetery is located in unincorporated territory, therefore not the village's concern.

My heart and soul grieves for the families who suffer because of this outrage.
To the families, please disregard the lunatic fringe who post their racist rantings here.
As a caucasian American, I can guarantee you that the overwhelming majority of all people regardless of color are very upset and disgusted at what transpired at Burr Oak.
An aside about society: check out the number of people who are more upset about the Cubs than this tragedy, according to the number of posts this morning on the Tribune.

SUBHUMAN,
Darn it! Now EVERYONE knows how ignorant you are! You would've done better by convincing us that you possessed a little intelligence-by sticking to the topic. But I see your teeny-tiny brain could only regurgitate what it digested-ABSOLUTE IGNORANCE! Perhaps, you should blog forums that don't require much thought. Don't be afraid to pick up a book & learn what cultures contributed to the formation of the USA (aka "The Melting Pot"). Hopefully that knowledge can help combat YOUR low self esteem, which spilled out in your response.

THE ONLY THING THAT I CAN AGREE WITH YOU on is your username(below mankind). That definitly describes who & what you are,no doubt about that!

Ministers, Priests, Rabbis do not have anything to do with this particular case. They do not manage or direct cemetaries that are privately owned. The church run cemetaries that I have seen are well maintained, and I doubt that any of this type of activity goes on in them.

No i'm upset that Tom Dart goes after pimps and whores and marks on Craigs list, and gets national headlines because of these grave sight opportunists. But where's the effort when it comes to busting the drug-gun lords that are murdering people everyday. I'm more concerned with the present. And Sheriff Dart HAS PROVEN TO BE A WIMP AGAINST THAT ELEMENT.

This is all so sad.

But is anyone really surprised that something like this could happen???

As we have been taught since the 60's to tolerate many bad behaviors and to not judge many bad behaviors, guess what we get? More bad behaviors!!!

So as people learn that no one will say anything or do anything, they learn that they can get away with more and more.

Yes, some laws and inspections will help, but the real problems are much, much deeper.

Watch what happens to the news stories. After the shock wears down, you'll find a story or two that makes the people behind these sick crimes the victims.

If the story stays in the news, then the stories will slowly move away from the real victims (the families) and towards protecting the criminals.

Just watch. And if this story sort of fades away, then watch other stories about criminals and see how the focus changes over time.

The longer the public is outraged, the more stories written that will make the criminal out to be a victim.

What I am describing is one of the mechanisms of modern liberalism where criminals are turned into victims and the real victims are forgotten.

It's one of the ways that liberals work to make everything "equal". They tear down everything that is good, successful and right while elevating everything that is evil, failed and wrong so we come to a middle ground where there is nothing left to fight about. It's the liberal Utopia.

But we all suffer as society is taken down.

This is all why many people feel hopelessness over our society. They see problems and they see that no one can do anything about them - like we used to be able to.

For those who want to take the time to understand the details of what I am saying, watch and absorb the video "How Modern Liberals Think" by Evan Sayet.

I have watched parts of it many times and it has been eye opening:

How is this so sad? Other then religious freaks, who go to cemeteries on a regular basis? Like I said before, I rather have Dart work on "Gang" issues to help save the "Living".
