After all, IKEA didn't open its stores in KZ. I guess our government asked for bribery. I don't see other reasons.

No way!

All ikea products have product descriptions in Kazakh language - I can't believe the stores weren't opened.

Really disappointed - as I was going to decorate my apartment in almaty using ikea items ...

I know Kazakh government had talks with IKEA management over opening stroes in Kazakhstan in October 2010. Let's see whether anything will come up as a result of this.

Almaty is the biggest city in Kazakhstan with population over 1.4 million. I'm sure IKEA will be popular there

It CAN be a great country. Killing strikers makes it the opposite of great.

IKEA failed their plan to open stores in KZ because of some disagreements with the government. As far as I know MEGA was involved in here as well. I worked for this unsucessfull project in Moscow and enjoyed my time spent on it. Sad it turned out this way, I still believe they would have a huge success here since we do need such unexpensive and stylish stuff. What we can afford here is just rubbish, if good, then way expensive ones.
