Isn't what is important in this story is what will North Korea do in the future, not what they will do in the near future?

How come I have to read an east coast newspaper to find out that N. Korea fired missles at all, regardless of range? Thanks for the [great] reporting (not), Star and Advertiser...

Obama can prove his leadership by flattening North Korea! North Korea is a useless country that doesn't do anything productive. The rest of the world needs to be reminded what the USA can do. Remind them of Hiroshima & Nagasaki.

So, you haven't stopped to consider the millions of innocent lives that would be sacrificed? They're only victims of propaganda, much like how we were snookered into believing that Iraq was a danger to the US.

Their firing of short-range missiles may have been a signal to the west, of ratcheting down the belligerent rhetoric of a long-range missile.

China may have proceeded to use direct channels to discourage North Korean officials from firing a long-range missile. In light of the political pressure it would have created for China (and Russia), the Chinese may have convinced NK that they would have had to go along with even stricter sanctions from the UN that would have inevitably followed, after a missile shot in the direction of the US. Or let's put it this way: The US has nothing to lose by letting the NK fire towards the US, but the NK have everything to lose if they fire at the US.

Instead, the NK are now allowed to continue to muck in their nuclear program without being forced back to the table for talks.

Different fuels; the short range SAMs, errrr SCUDS are solid fuel missiles.

The longer range Taepodong-2 (TD-2) uses LOX. Its has to be mounted on the launchpad and fueled ----- another reason why the tyrant threatens to blow surveillance aircraft out of the sky.

Gee, that's reassuring. Once the NKs were developing, with outside assistance, nuclear reactors. We were worried that they might be producing fissionable material. But they assured us they weren't so it was OK. But they did and we were worried that they might build nuclear weapons. But they assured us they weren't so it was OK. But they did and now they have weapons available. Then they started building missles, but they fizzled and instead of launching peaceful satellites, they fell into the ocean, so it was OK. Now they have missles that can almost, but not quite range the US, so its OK, don't worry. And they haven't figured out how to mate a warhead to the missile...yet.
So its OK. Don't worry.

well, at least he got "the people are racist and the leaders are stupid" correct.

I dont mind being racist at all these days, not at all. I would hate to be stupid, though.

We THINK they can't reach us, but we're not sure. A few cruise missile over their launching facilities, armed with cluster bombs, would ensure they don't launch. BEFORE they light us up. I think Obama considers Hawaii to be expendable, and is willing to take the risk.

I could not agree with you more. Determining NK's capabilities is not an exact science and our administrations since Carter have tried to do so with a healthy dose of wishful thinking. While some were recently scoffing over NK's failed satellite launch, it occurred to me that firing a missile that falls to earth on a specific spot, usually well short of max range, is exactly how we test our ICBMs. Its just a matter of time.

They have nuclear weapons, and the means to deliver them short-range (i.e. South Korea and Japan). If you bomb some or all of their facilities, you don't think that they have mobile launchers that can sneak part or all of their nuclear arsenal towards SK and Japan?

Will you accept responsibility for the deaths of hundreds of millions, because you made the mistake of assuming that you could bomb NK without repurcussions?

Good luck with your ideas.

Obama can do what he is paid to do, protect the United States. Risking a nuclear strike on America by worrying about what MIGHT happen in Japan and South Korea is reckless. Maybe he should go be their president and we'll elect an American that worries about the U.S.
