As an employee of the sheriff's department in Cocke County I can surley say that the sheriff is a tight wad except when it comes to himself. He cares only for himself and not about the safety and welfare of his employees. Officers are given radio's that do not work, when we ask him to fix them he says he does not have the money, he lets officers go withot bullet proof vests, does not provide adaquet training and last of all has run off most of our decent road officers. The Sheriff appears on TV saying that he has made some positive progress in bettering the department. I guess he means he happy about buying himself a full size SUV at tax payers expense, and he has a very effective good ole boy system that consists of certain employees being punnished while others are free to do anything. This sheriff is one of the worst Cocke County has ever had.

Seems like Cocke County is a fairly poor area, and taxpayers are tired of paying out for new jails. So many other things are necessary.

WOW, I say if the jail is as dirty as they say, issue each of the inmates a bucket and a toothbrush and get to scrubing. It will make there time go by faster and get the jail cleaned up at the same time. I know all of the people that are there deserve to be but something bad is going to happen like a fire and some people that are just in for petty crimes are going to die. Maybe even some employees. What a mess.

It all boils down to finances. The responsibility for over site is mandated. Can the tax base support the necessary changes such as necessary manpower to make it safe, facility functionality and cleanliness vs. is/are the one/ones charged with the responsibility of the jail ready to make the monetary commitment. Bottom line folks... nothing more, nothing less!

Why does everyone pick on Cocke County!!! Every other County has it's problems as well. They just want to run our name in the ground a little more. I'm proud to be from Cocke County!!!

i was just asking, sorry if i didnt use the curly thing at the end of sentence, like that???
i feel bad that an ongoing system which appears to have unresolved issues, is headed for a lawsuit. which can cost the community alot of money...your tax money could go to pay for a lawsuit from there...let me know if you want to yell at me again...

I used to work in the Cocke county jail and what everyone is saying about it is true. It needs to be closed down. Inmates need to be shipped to surrounding counties and that be the end of it. The sheriff has tried to do his job but with so many people working against him politically it is really hard for him to do his job. Even though he made promises that he didnt keep doesnt make him a bad person just a liar that is all. Have you ever noticed there are no female road officers? They will say they have one female but does she pull cars over go on calls NO she doesnt.
