I was on meds for my adhd for years. I quit when I was about 24 and was doing fine. Now it's come back full force and I need to get it under control again. Can anyone point me toward a competent doctor to help me?

Topix is a poor place to look for recommendations. It's really a place for discussions about maters of local interest, and your more likely to receive ridicule than solid advice.

NightSerf is crazy so if he suggest a psych doctor it's probably form experience. I got rid of my ADHD by chronically jerking the ole relaxation tool in my underwear.

WebMD has a Physicians Directory where you can find a number of psychiatrists in your local area. Hope this helps you. Best of luck.

I'm just curious if animals could have ADHD or ADD as well? Sometimes I think that my dog does, and I haven't had the chance to take her to an Veterinary clinic to find out. Where is there a good animal hospital that would know? http://www.caminoaltovet.com

Try an upper cervical chiropractor. They work at the level of the brainstem and have had great results in helping conditions not usually associated with chiropractic. As a Folsom chiropractor I reach out to those suffering from ADD and ADHD. http://www.thefolsomchiropractor.com

I honestly don't understand why you even bothered to post in a thread about Adult ADD. It's clearly a disorder know absolutely nothing about. Frankly, your comments are just plain ugly and presumptuous. You should focus your energy in a positive direction, taking the time to formulate intelligent posts in a thread you actually know something about.

Many people come to this forum seeking recommendations for doctors, dentists, physical therapists, etc because it's really the only way to find out what other local residents experiences have been. Sure, I suppose we could just pick a physician out of the phone book at random and hope for the best...but why should anyone risk wasting time and money when they shouldn't have to??? That's EXACTLY what the LOCAL Topix Forum is about; discussing and offering insight and advice about ALL ASPECTS of our community.

Those of you who are lucky enough not to be plagued with this disorder should thank your lucky stars.

I'm unfortunate enough to have Adult ADD as well. It truly does take a toll on virtually every aspect of your life.
My situation is similar to another poster who asked for a recommendation of a physician that treats Adult ADD.
Although diagnosed years ago,(I'm now 40) I've struggled with ADD for years. During various times of my life, I've went off medication in hopes of controlling symptoms naturally. Unfortunately, I've never had much luck in doing so except for short periods of time.

So, I now find myself in search of a doctor that will treat my adult add. Living in South Carolina, my primary physician prescribed by vyvase. Now, I need to find a physician here that I can see. Since some doctors are either not very informed about Adult Add or unwilling to treat it, I'm asking for recommendations from those in the community.
I'm currently un-insured, so I'd prefer a physician that is not too cost prohibitive.

OK, so this is Topix and it is known for posts like this. What you are trying to do is like walking into a New Orleans whorehouse looking for a wife. You can find all kinds of women, but probably no wife material. Don't expect valid recommendations on Topix. Even if you get one, I would never trust it.

I understand what you're trying to say...but,just because it's TOPIX doesn't mean people shouldn't be able to post ACTUAL, VALID QUESTIONS and expect to receive INTELLIGENT ANSWERS OR SUGGESTIONS.
Afterall, that's the service this forum is meant to provide.
Not one poster has even given this person a single suggestion!
The Topix forums in other towns, most of those (not all, but most) postng in a thread actually DO OFFER SUGGESTIONS.
There are HUNDREDS of threads on here in which people are blatently asking to buy medications, as well as many other sordid things. Why can't those people who can not offer help to legitimate people, save their CRAZY OPINIONS to post in those threads???
There actually are people posting serious issues (to them) on here who are truly looking for helpful advice. The reason they choose this forum is kinda like the same reason people choose ebay to search for items they need....because TOPIX has the largest audience and is really the ONLY LOCAL forum (that is FREE) where a person can find out IN THEIR TOWN how a doctor is, or how good a roofer roofs, or whether or not a resteraunt is worth eating at.

Thank you! I couldn't agree more! There are people on here who ask legitimate questions, even about pain management or medications. There are a certain few that automatically jump on a person who is even asking a serious question. I understand it is sometimes hard to tell the difference in who is serious and who is just drug seeking but it makes me so angry when a person is automatically judged. There are several people on here that no matter what the subject is, they make a comment. I guess they are lonely and are in desperate need of attention. Who knows??
