All who call themselves CONTRACTOR's are not licensed by the State. The State requires A Contractor to be Licensed for projects of $25,000 and some Counties require a Home Improvement License for projects over $3000. You should you only State Of Tennessee Licensed Contractors. Most will not screw over you.

Your right 100%...another thing to keep in mind is their insurance....liability and worker's comp.... A lot will say they have coverage, but you better check!!! One falls off your roof and next thing you know your being sued!!!! There is a state website to check someone's "so call license" it under the department of commerce and insurance....TN.gov....easy to find and to protect yourself as a homeowner...They should also be willing to give their insurance agents name too....
Take it from who has learned the hard way....do your homework or don't complain when you get a bad grade....food for thought....
