TBI charges Claiborne man with child rape

A joint investigation is under way into allegations a Claiborne County man raped a girl seven years ago when she was 11 and fathered a child with her when she was 16.

Now as to this article, how on earth can anyone do what this man is accused of doing? If he is guilty, he needs to go away for a long, long time.

I don't understand how a parent can't tell that something is wrong with their kid.. especially a little girl of 11...Maybe when they are teens they shut down and keep things to themselves, but at 11? I think I could tell that something was amiss...And, you are right NightSerf...I'd prefer stiffer punishment than you (LOL),but I'd go with a long prison sentence...

You know me--I believe in working within the framework of the law. I'd no more advocate punishments beyond its limits for these crimes than I would commit them myself. But in many of the cases I've followed over the years, the sentences have been less than the minimum specified by the legislature, and that bothers me, too, especially in cases where children have been victimized. Our children are the most precious of all beings in our society, and harming them is the gravest of all violations of trust. It's hard to imagine any mitigating factors that justify a shred of lenience.

Very well said , NightSerf . Also your later comment about working within the law . It makes you wonder if the judges who are handing out these terribly weak sentences would react differently if it were their daughter who were raped .

Even if she was willing, that does not change the fact that she was a child. It shouldn't matter what kind of person she is, if she is on drugs, sells them or not. He is old enough to be her father, he should have known better.

According to the article, the abuse began when she was 11, but she didn't have a baby until she was 16, which means she was probably 15 at the time of the conception. I might be skeptical if the charges were being made by relatively untrained small town police, but these charges come from the TBI, a well trained unit that adheres to national standards.

This might be a trial worth watching when it comes up. I hope that those who are following it closely will post in this forum when jury selection begins.

i know that he never raped the girl and this is bull shit i have lived beside all this shit for years and i got all the proof he needs to show the truth that i just took to the district attorney office her dad evens knows better but she was under 18 but her family was well aware of it she took over his life only thing he got good out this is a kid that will have a fucked up life now for sure
