I visited The Last Lap a couple of times, in '79/'80 before college and in September of 1981 after enrolling at UT. The atmosphere was always great/hopping: subdued lighting, all the booths were full of people, facility was well-populated. Back then pitchers of beer were only around $5.00 or less compared to almost $10.00 in most places now. The hamburgers there were phenomenal.
Remember Ivy's, one street over and up closer to Taco Bell/Krystal? It wasn't as classy as The Lap but memorable nonetheless. The Doors, especially "Riders on the Storm", "Light My Fire", "L.A. Woman" were frequently playing on the juke box.

The Last Lap had a group of bouncers who thought THEY were the baddest of the bad. I say THEY because they would gang up on one or two guys and beat them down. I never saw them go one on one with a real man ever. If only one member of the Lap's thug patrol had run into one of their victims one on one they'd likely have pissed their pants.
In 1980 about 5-6 rough customers came in one at a time with the intention of taking their gang of pussy bouncers to school. It truly seemed the bouncers hid in the back. They even had a young girl checking IDs at the door. True cowards in a group, sniveling cowards on their own.
Just the facts, the Lap had bouncers who worked out in a gym and were pussy college boys. The guys who came to visit thrived on pain. No contest, that's the reason they hid.

You must have been one of those losers i punched out back in the day. Hope you enjoyed getting your clock cleaned. i remember us busting up a punk who thought he was a karate expert. we busted his head open and he bled like a stuck pig. Old Lap bartenders still rule, son.

.....WE busted his head open....that says it all old man. WE.
You're probably one of the ones who hid in the kitchen that night. Cowards who ran in a pack. And fools get on here talk about how great the Lap was. You're living in the past, you're a legend in your own mind. The Lap sucked then, the people who worked there still do.

You're as full of shit now as much as you were a coward back then. It was WE. Remember? I wasn't thrown out. The bouncers stayed in the kitchen while a girl checked IDs. I wish they had come out.
If working at the lap was this important to you you sure peaked early in life. Bench 360?? More like drinks 360 beers a month.

Trying to remember names of some of the hottest women to frequent the Lap in the late 1970s and early 1980s? Any names, guys?
I still remember the day I met miss hotness herself, Edie Rose @ the Lap's back bar.
I guess she & her then roomate Beth Eason were among the hotter ladies on the customer side & Martha Boggs was an exceptionally hot bartender there and the U Club. That was back in 1982-1984 range. Jim was my landlord & my roomate worked for him too. Good, good times...

I too worked at the Lap!
1985, my sister got me a job and I moved out from San Diego!!
I was 18... I mean 21. I tended the back bar by myself on Friday dollar pitcher nights! I was too naieve to realize that the frat boys were unfairly takings my hard earned tips !!! Jim was awesome... Except I learned to keep count of the bullets that he would drink and take:)
Great memories!!!

Could you be any more of a loser. The Lap rocked, the women were fine, and the only ones I ever saw get taken out there were looking for it! We are recalling old times that we enjoyed... you probably did not enjoy it because nobody liked your obnoxious self!

I knew a coward then and I know one now. I never said I didn't like the women. Had my share. The bouncers were cowards who ganged up on and beat up drunks. They never touched me. I'm not the only one who knows this. I was around from 1979 to about '85. Maybe you knew different guys. The ones in those years were exactly as I said.

When we would be out in the parking lot duking it out, over what, we didn't know, then the blue lights... We would run back inside quietly bleeding and become the best of friends as the police entered the building. Those were the days. Mama don't let your babies grow up to be Cowboys. Harvey would give a round of beer to everyone, then it would start all over again. All would be well until the next fight.
