The new one only shares (shared?) the name. The old one was cool as can be. I liked the Pickle U Pub & Bundoolee's too. The Tunnel/Yosemite Sam's, Sam & Andy's, Vic & Bill's,Roman Room, Original Ruby Tuesday, Vol Mkt, Electric Wizard & more all bring special Memories. The Last Lap was there but not nearly as cool as the others.
I especially miss Dan from Dandridge at Pickle U. I think he passed away in '81 or '82.

After the Lap closed no other bar opened under that name. I bet your thinking of the Longbranch since you mention the Lap later in your post.

Hey Johnny South Knxville....your are thinking about a different place than the Last Lap...maybe the Tap Room or Longbranch. Jim England owned the Last Lap, which was across the street from Stefano's Pizza. Hottest women in town came in there in mid and late 1970s. The best hookup place ever.

Last lap rocked- I remember it well - I'm 54 now those were the days! Mixed drinks by pitcher, jukebox controls at the tables, wall to wall hotties! always a happy place to be - good memories thanks !

I went there in the fall of 78. Always had a blast. There was a place next door called "The Brewery" where women could drink tap free one night a week. That was fun, too. I loved Stefano's, and the head shop next door. I still have my spectrum glasses I bought there. I dream about the whole area all the time, but in my dreams, it looks like it did back then.

Yep - remember it well; Hippies at Longbranch; Frats at Last Lap, and Disco at Cheeks - take your pick. Every night was "Ladies' Night" somewhere. Whatever happened to "Dan & Gracies" & the nice older couple with the son who helped run the bar?

I used to work at the Lap (1980-82)and frequented all of the above. Heck, I probably even know you. Had my first beer on the strip in 1976 at the Tap Room.

I spent most nights at the Last Lap when in was in college at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville from 1971-1975. A football player named Mickey Marvin went into a drunken tirade there one night and ordered everyone to leave. My friend Ricky Sharp and I declined his invitation. Hell, we had half of a pitcher to drink for God's sake! I still have a photo of Jim England and me outside the bar the last day it was open. What a place! The Taproom couln't compare.

Great news Clay! Ask your dad if he'll hire us old guys who worked for him back in the late 70s and early 80s. Best times of my life. Loved that place.

Jim England, England Sound, The Last Lap and more were well known on the Strip. Seems like I first heard of him when I was just a little kid. Mind if I ask how your dad is doing and how old he is? Please send him well wises from one who enjoyed his efforts years ago.

I remember Jim England. I hung around the last lap with a bunch of UT track stars like Dave Mason. We were all ATO. That place had a great saw dust covered automatic bowling machine just behind the bar to the left as you entered the place. Also had that old video tennis game (like pong).
What a laugh. That and Sam and Andy's were great on the strip.
