I wonder how many physicians knowingly work at these clinics simply because they are users? I've known a few that worked there after being fired at their practice. JBJ???

What about the patients that REALLLY had pain? What are they to do? They had strict guidlines to even get into their practice and you had to follow those ... It's not easy to find another place that you can get an appt on short notice. Does anyone know the people that worked there and are they all in jail/in trouble?

I read, yesterday, that up to 15% of all pain-doctors' prescribing opiates are addicted themselves.

You need to walk in the shoes of someone with chronic pain for just one damn day. You obviously have no compassion for someone who suffers every day! Get a life!

Betty,

This is a great article written by a addicted anethesiologist. Most all CP docs are anethesiologists. It also examines the high rate of addiction for docs. It could be the handling and breathing of fentanyl and other drugs during operations causing some addictions. http://www.menshealth.com/health/junkie-or

Take care

I feel bad for the CPP's. Not only do they lose their doctor, but other doctors won't take them on. I heard docs in Ma are very leary of Fl CPP's. They are taking them, although being very stringent in prescribing anything too strong. It does change once they build trust.

Best of luck to those that are in this predicament.

Every doctor prescribes pain medication in some form or another. Addiction has to do with a lot more than just the drug itself. It goes into stresses, past issues you name it. Anesthesiologists have a higher percentage of addiction than other docs just like nurses who work in critical care have a higher risk of addiction. Higher stress area = greater chance of addiction
