Trial for Former Knoxville Police Officer, Brian Lonas Hoover, Looms

There are 7 comments on the story from Sep 21, 2008, titled Trial for Former Knoxville Police Officer, Brian Lonas Hoover, Looms. In it, reports that:

Former KPD Officer, Brian Lonas Hoover, faces an October 6th trial in Knox County Criminal Court on a 30-count indictment leveled in connection with an incident last year inside an Island Home Avenue home the ex-lawman was provided by Ijams Nature Center, where he had served as caretaker.

Hoover had faced a single count of aggravated assault for what a warrant alleged was a five-hour ordeal for a 24-year-old woman who only recently had moved in with Hoover. However, the grand jury slapped the former officer with 30 charges, involving three chief crimes - kidnapping involving threats and injuries, assault with a shotgun and assault with hands and fists. Court records allege that Hoover threatened his then-girlfriend with a shotgun and held her captive inside the Ijams home. "The victim was in fear of her safety and thought she might be shot," KPD Investigator Bryan Davis wrote in a warrant. Hoover is accused of repeatedly beating the woman, kicking, slapping and punching her. "The victim had injuries to her face, stomach, right arm, hip and stomach," Davis wrote. "The injuries were consistent with her statement (of what occurred)." It is not clear from the court records how the incident ended, though Hoover was charged five days after the alleged kidnapping.

A five-year veteran of KPD, Hoover was already was under an Internal Affairs probe for complaints ranging from rudeness to improper report filing and had been taken off patrol. He was arraigned before Knox County Criminal Court Judge Richard Baumgartner on the indictments, and sources close to the investigation have hinted that more charges could follow, as "this most recent victim apparently isn't the only victim to come forward."

I noticed that the wording of this article follows very closely with a Knox News Sentinel article dated May 1st, 2008. Please give proper attribution to your sources - it's only fair.

And thanks for coming on board as a Topix editor, 2spunky!

It's about time. In fact, this trial is long overdue. Justice can't come soon enough. I hope the trial is over without any further delays.
