I know why he has received so many threats people are getting fed up with the implemented fees! We have to look at this way either we pay the fee and our families go hungry or we don't pay and if our homes catch fire they let them burn down! This reminds so much of the old days when people had to pay a villain for their protection! This is what it all boils down to the fire dept's have became the new Gangsters around here and if you don't pay up they burn your business down but in our case they don't burn it they let it burn down it is no different though!

Typical, wanting something for nothing! How do you expect the department to run when you dead beats won't donate when the VFD comes knocking at your door! If people would donate like they used to, these VFD's would not have to start doing this!

In regards to "tax dollars", you people would then bitch and raise hell because your taxes went up!

Face it Obama-ites, you're just pissed b/c your not getting a free government hand-out!

(PS: The FD WILL NOT watch your house burn if you don't have a subscription! Does R/M in Knox County stand by if you haven't?)

Im amazed how all these people running there mouths dont have their facts straight! Call the dept. Get educated! You can get your fee waved if you simply cant afford it. Why wouldnt i want full time EMTs 1 mile from my house for a minimal minimal annual fee. Win win people!!! We are 30 years behind the times! Check your border counties. Get educated!!

A little giant has taken over the AVFD. I have appreciated and supported them in the past, but no more. The chief lives in clinton, he has no respectable purpose in a-ville

Stock up on fire extinguishers, extend your water hoses. Only in America, what's next, a fee/tax for the air we breathe! It's coming!

Ok let's set some things straight. I've talked to the board of directors at AVFD and these are the actual facts- not heresy and bs. First off the chief answers to the departments board of directors. The board voted to move in this direction due to the lack of find- or the prevention of previously approved fundraising methods. The membership program is a residents choice I pay or not. Just like everything else in our society when you request a service you are expected to pay for it. As for the person that made a comment on another related thread about "lifestar in their back yard" if you would do a little research they too have a membership program. Furthermore the fire chief at AVFD will not be a paid position. Chief Bagwell will continue to respond to emergencies on a 100% volunteer basis. As far as the department "jumping calls in Clinton, Norris and Knox county" that is also false. AVFD, as well as every other department in the county has mutual aid agreements with surrounding departments and do not respond unless requested and/or dispatched. AVFD covers a 68 square mile radius. Their district lines run from the Anderson county jail to Norris lake, excluding the four lane and any establishment that has a cash register that the city of Clinton has annexed. It also run from the Knox county line to the clinch river bridge on I75. Addressing the issue of people stating "I called an ambulance not a fire truck" consider this. Anderson county EMS operate 6 24 hour ALS, or emergency, trucks in the county everyday and does a fine job of it. However there are times when call volumes increase. When this happens ambulances are pulled from their home stations to post to a more central location. That being said if you call for an ambulance during a time that ACEMS is experiencing high call volumes the truck that is dispatched to you could be coming from the New Salem community, while the EMTs that would be working for AVFD would continually stay in the Andersonville community. This would decrease the time it would take for an individual to receive potentially life saving aid. Keep in mind irreversible brain damage can occur when a brain is depleted of oxygen for 6 minutes. People understand that change causes controversy but get the facts before you continue to use this slander.

I have seen a lot of good people throw around acusations at other good people in a'ville. I would love to know what the facts are regarding this whole mess. Obviously the letter to the community was a huge mistake and seemed like strong arm tactics. The VFD did apologize for the way it was worded. I think the residents in general support the VFD members and are thankful we have brave men who volunteer their time and safety to help the community but feel bullied by the way subscription was implemented with no recourse or voice.

the sheriffs department, along with county commissioners, put an end to the boot drives for reasons that i'm still unsure of. The department would still gladly do boot drives but are not allowed to anymore
