When I heard of Steve's death today I was in shock as most of you. A man whom had many friends, successful in business and well informed in all aspect of life. What a human tragedy, and at the prime of his life. I would see Kirk at several Bearded restaurants and we would catch up and discuss training and fitness related goals. Easy conversation because you have little time to fellowship when you have family and personal responsibilities awaiting. I will miss seeing him around and getting to know him better! God Bless the Kirk family and, I deeply feel your loss...

Wes Hayes was almost two blocks away from his own condo. Steve was in front of his home, in his own parking lot, unloading his car. I ask again, what kind of fool walks around a neighborhood at 11:00 at night carrying a gun and why was he at Steven's house? Wes Hayes has a reputation in this neighborhood as a hothead and very difficult to get along with. His relatives who've written about what a nice guy he is obviously have not experienced his temper tantrums. We have. It scares me silly to know that a gun-toting trigger-happy bully is back in the neighborhood. I'm going to move from here as quickly as I can sell my condo. Our sense of safety and security are gone forever.

why don't you ask Wes who stole $3500.00 worth of tools out of his truck the other night? i'm not saying shooting is the answer to any problem. i just trying to say you may be worshipping the wrong person here. Wes has had a very rough time of things growing up and is tired of being walked all over. why don't you unknowledable people wait until the truth comes out before you pull out your imaginery guns and shoot Wes

IF WES HAD TOOLS STOLEN OUT OF HIS TRUCK AND THIS GUY DID IT, IT SEEMS THAT WES WOULD SIMPLY CALL THE POLICE. IF WES THOUGHT THIS GUY STOLE HIS TOOLS, BUT JUST GUESSED ON IT, THAT IS STILL SUSPECT. IF WES DID HAVE HIS TOOLS STOLEN BY THIS GUY, AND HE IS FED UP, STILL CALL THE POLICE, ACCUSE THE GUY AND SEARCH FOR THE TOOLS. SO, INSTEAD, HE THINKS HE KNOWS AND CONFRONTS THE GUY? STILL DOES NOT SOUND PLAUSABLE. DECIDES TO KILL HIM? YOU MY DEAR SEEM TO JUST BE A WES FAN, AND ONE DAY, HE MIGHT GET "FED UP" WITH YOU! THE TRUTH WOULD BE GREAT GAGIRL! BUT CAN YOU HANDLE THE TRUTH? YOU HAVE A HOT HEAD ASSASSIN FOR A FRIEND/RELATIVE OR WHATEVER. AND BY THE WAY, 85% OF AMERICA HAD A TOUGH TIME GROWING UP!

My problem is if this Wes is such a great guy where are all of his friends. Your on a island all by yourself defending him. Not one other person can find anything good to say about him. As you can tell Steven was loved by many and will be missed by many! You can pick your friends and Steve has many.It is really sad that we all have to meet today at his final resting place to say goodbye!

Sorry to say gagirl, Steve didn't need Wes' tools...he had plenty of his own and wouldn't stoop so low as to steal them from someone else. If need be, he would buy or rent them. I did work on many of his houses and he really didn't need someone else's tools.

Dear Vincent:

I am so very sorry for your loss. I met you and Steven at my dear friend, Gina's restaurant, The Courtyard Cafe. You two brightned everyone's day when you came in for lunch. We always admired your all's friendship and love for one another.

My nephew attended First Lutheran School with Steven's children and he loved being around Steven at the basketball games and other school functions. He said, "He was one of the coolest parents at FLS", and I am sure that he was!

We have all lost a very decent, beautiful friend and we while we grieve over this tragedy, we are all blessed to have known him. His family and friends are and will continue to be in my
prayers.

May God bless and comfort you, Vincent.

We are not worshipping anybody gagirl, just stating what a good friend he was to a lot of people. You say Wes had a rough time growing up. Does that mean it should be ok for him to walk around late night with a flashlight and a gun and snoop around other people's home? Why not call the police if you thought somebody took your belongings? Many of us feel like Wes was looking for his own sort of justice when he went out that night with his gun and flashlight. Missing tools, bad childhood, rough life.....we keep hearing what appears to be excuses for why Wes did what he did. Why can't he be a man and own up to what he did? He went out that night looking for his own sort of Wild West justice and eventually unloaded 14 rounds at Kirk hitting him 3 times and now Kirk is gone. Tools can be replaced but human beings can't.

You need to get your facts straight. Take a trip up here and see exactly where it happened cause it wasn't in front of Wes's condo, it was up around the road. No one is saying that your relative is a bad guy just by his looks. What is questioned is why he was there and carrying a gun. Both families are hurting now and you are just making things worse with misinformation. Again get your facts straight.

Excuse me but I haven't said one bad thing about Kirk. What irritates me is that everyones seems to think that he was this amazing person, which I am not disagreeing with I dodn't know him, that would NEVER do such a thing. Well he did. He had a gun as well as Wes. I didn't say that I knew who shot first I was saying that this other lady, can't remember her S/N, says that Wes fired first, Wes' gun went off 6 times. As I have stated in another comment is that noone knows who shot first and for what reason except for Wes and Kirk. Again I haven't said one bad thing about Kirk. I feel horrible for his family and I have said prayers for them as well as Wes.

Does anyone know if there is going to be a charge in this matter? I see nothing about it in the News Sentinel.
Vincent Martin wrote:
GUNS-GUNS-GUNS....As for the gun my good friend Steven Kirk had? He is has a carry permit, and the gun is registered. Steven has done business and has rental properties in a lot of areas, some less than favorable. For protection of self, and family, he would have his gun on his person (legally.) As for that night, because he had just gotten home, it makes sense that he would be transporting his weapon from the car to his house. As his family can confirm that he did make it to his home door, started to make entry, when a conversation was started on or near his front porch. To the point that his keys remained in the front door. What happened after that is obviously the grey area. Folks, I have been his best friend for nearly twenty years. One thing for sure is, no good outcome in this event exists. My best friend is dead, and no one can fix it. So..I go back to my original post yesterday, and ask that if you believe in prayer that you pray for his family. Christy, Taylor, Christian. They had to see him die. Pray for his brother Orlando, who had to attempt to hold the blood and skull fragments in his head, and who had the spirit and sense to ask Steven to call upon the Lord! I thank you Orlando for that! Pray for the Mr. Hayes and his family as this is a real tough deal for all involved. Remember that everyone belongs to someone, and family and friends are the ultimate "team event." And when you fight flesh to flesh, no one can truly win. Friends of Steven, I hope that you all can step up and show your support for his family. Perhaps we can start a college fund or something for his children.......following is an excerpt from a journal that I have been holding for Steven, with a passage directed at his children..........To Taylor & Christian. I love you and I have loved you from the moment I was born-Thank God you have a mother that cares. Taylor, she will be here for you when no man can understand....Christian, I will be here for you when no woman can understand-we both love you always.....I live for you guys-All I do, and we do is for you both. I only hope you understand. The work has been hard, but worth it when I think of you. Take what is given you and plant seeds........FRUITS WILL FOLLOW.....Steven Kirk

I am Steven Kirk's youngest sister. He has always been there for me and supported me. He gave me his ATM card when I was in college. He told me many time to take my friend out on him. I will be getting my doctorate degree next month and he will not be there. This will be the first graduation he has missed of mine. Don Wes Hayes I don't know you, but God have mercy on your soul. I love my brother Steve.

I lived a few doors down from Wes Hayes in another building and have known him for well over a year now. This whole back and forth bickering is really sad... it a second tragedy to the situation. No one knows why it got to the point of violence. I know Wes Hayes as a neighbor and as someone who always looked out for me. He seemed very gentle and concerned about people and I am shocked to hear about this event. I didnt know Stephen Kirk but he was lucky to have so many people that loved him in his life. My heart goes out to his family who now have to grieve deeply. Its extremely sad that the neighborhood has gotten to the point where no one trusts the other. We should all look out for each other, not be suspicious! I never once saw Wes leave the property after his 12 hour work day as a welder, he would sit in his chair outside on the porch or ride his motorcycle and enjoy the weather, not go out stalking the neighborhood like some of the people on here are implying. So please, I know some of you are very angry over this, I understand that, but it does no good to lash out at someone that you dont know over circumstances you werent present for.
