Pluralism is what this country is based on. Freedom of choice is pluralism.

If you don't believe in freedom for people unlike yourself, then you don't deserve freedom.

So you prefer hate, and mock people who care more about diversity than one interpretation of one faith? If that's what your faith believe, you are an enemy of freedom and America.

This is what you might call the "Extremely Stupid" way of looking at abortion.

Regardless of how many there have been, it has never been a governmental fiat; it has always been the choice by ONE woman and ONE pregnancy at a time.

What makes it even more stupid is the reference to hitler, considering that he outlawed abortion (at least for aryan women). The PLM'ers are actually flowing in his footsteps.

Actually, I have not seen any reports that he targeted children; in fact, if they were on a stage they would have been easier to hit than shooting into the audience, which is what actually occurred. The fact is that no child was harmed, not even the ones in the audience.

The attack was aimed at children. He is a coward, and you are too. No matter how you look at it, Mr. Knoxville, it is ugly as hell, and your town is all over the news about this infamy. If you are quoting someone, give your source; otherwise it is plagiarism.

Do you not understand that it is possible to have a set of precepts in one religion and still consider yourself a member of another church? Many faiths--earth-bound or not--have this paradigm. Many christian sects have tried to honor "Spiritual teachings of earth-centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature." There is no conflict between living in harmony with nature and christianity.

BTW--atheism is not a "belief"; that's an oxymoron.

The sources of inspiration for the UU faith are too many to be counted, but delegates from each congregation have agreed that one of the predominant sources of our faith is, "Spiritual teachings of earth-centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature."
In addition to modern Paganism, many Unitarian Universalists find spiritual inspiration in other forms of nature-based spirituality, including simple seasonal reverence, modern Transcendentalism, and other nature-honoring paths.

1 You dont' get to determine who is christian and who is not. You don't get to judge how a sect must worship. These are not just control issues, but also bigotry, like those who say that christian sects that perform gay weddings aren't christians either.

2) You don't get to say what form worship needs to take. In fact, the standard churches with their own prayers are actually ignoring what christ said about prayer being a wholly private matter, not a public function. But since when have christians ever really listened to christ?

The only intrinsic definition of "christian" is one who believes christ was divine". Many wiccans, etc, believe that christ was a divine teacher but do not say he was the only voice worth hearing. Others believe that we are all divine in origin.

YOU are not the final arbiter of christianity and you aren't in a position to judge the entire church because of some instance involving your family.

You have an irrational hatred of a church that is no more or less perfect or valid than any other organized religion.

You know, not all christian sects follow the bible rigidly.

Wiccans don't worship the earth; they worship the energy called life; many have no problem with equating that energy with what the christians call "god".

You don't understand that wiccans are not as hidebound as you seem to be when it comes to spirituality; they dont' view the bible necessarily as proof of anything, since it was written by man and has been used as a weapon from the moment of its collation.

People wonder why the increase in violance but really you don't have to go any further then this forum to understand why all the violance, Because it seems insanity is contagious after all!:)

But if insanity can be contagious surely healing and wellness can be also, what if we all find out when we die, there really is a God, And we were looking God in the eye our whole lives long,And God wasn't in a book or a building or anything that has no life, God was not in the chaos or the strive the bitterness or confusion the fear or the anger..but there in the moments of wonderful with in us all.
and it was our job all along to bring God out into the world to heal the world and create a new heaven and a new earth where there is hope enough for all?

The economy was tanking long before the gas prices rose or the housing crisis began. No one has said to give up on america, but we have to make changes.
The GOP line about more drilling is a crock--there have been a huge number of drilling permits issued over the past 8 years and they have not made any difference.
The trick is not to find new oil but to reduce our personal dependence on it altogether. Gas-guzzling SUV's, hummers, etc, need ot be replaced with fuel-efficient autos (preferably hybrids), and public transportation also needs to be more effective. Less driving for pleasure and less commuting over vast distances to get to work and back. There are hundreds of adjustments to make, some large and some small. But pretending all we need to do is to drill more is asinine.
I dont' know where you live, but gas prices aren't dropping in any meaningful way in any major city. There are daily fluctuations, but the fact is that we are still paying higher prices now than we were even 3 months ago. And why are you bitching at congress; it's the oil companies making the obscene profits; gas simply doe snot have to be as expensive as it is. Maybe we need to regulate oil prices. But that can't happen until we get the oil men out of the white house, obviously.
You know, when my mother was growing up, her father was a fairly well-off man in a small but well-off town in the north. The depression didn't affect their standard of living at all, just like the current problems don't seem to be bothering you. That doesn't mean that the Depression didn't happen or that it wasn't devastating; it just means that some people happened to be less affected by it.
Scott T wrote:

I disagree. If not for high gas prices and the housing situation where too many people signed either stupid loans or bought a house they simply couldn..t pay for, I think our economy would be singing along right now on all 8 cylinders. I refuse to give up on the United States of America. Too many good hard working people to give up on.
Half of our problem would be solved if our Congress would open up drilling and exploration in and around this country and get the US off of middle eastern oil. The other half, housing, will right itself. Fact. As bad as the housing seems on the nightly news, 95% of mortgage holders in this country are paying their mortgages on time. I personally haven..t missed a one since I bought my first house in ..93.
I am in the new home construction business in three states in the southeastern part of our country. Commercial building in my three states is humming right along. Building everyday.
If Pelosi would get off her kick about wanting to save the world and allow our country to be energy independent and even build nuclear power plants like other countries in the world, alot of our problems today would be solved. Of course, Pelosi doesn..t need anything positive happening right now or in the next six months because her party has an election to win. What is happening dialy with Americans struggling to afford to fill their gas tanks couldn..t concern Pelosi or her Dem controlled Congress at all. They couldn..t care less about people right now and through the end of the year....
That will never happen because, like I said, Pelosi and our ahhm big evil Democratic led Congress, with their approval rating of just 9%, have an election to win. John Doe struggling today and tommorrow doesn..t matter.

I think that the psychologist that tested your IQ score actually stole money from you. Or probably the machine was out of order when it tested your IQ scores. "The Universe was created by SOMETHING"

Critical thinking at its best--and you have the temerity to say I have a "small mind". This is in fact how every culture has created its gods, by presuming that it's too complex for random chance.

BTW--Earth as near-perfect climates, and also has some unlivable ones. And this is just one planet in billions, most of which are NOT "perfect".

It is a sad reflection on you that you consider inquisitive thought as "negative".
