I'm so sad that Ben will be leaving. He was too professional for this team though and I, for one, will not be watching Channel 10 in the mornings. To add Russell to the already overly goofy Mike and Ed is just too much. Best of luck Ben. I hope you find somewhere that fits your professionalism and style!
Channel 8 with Bob Yarbrough and Stacey McCloud is so much better. Their traffic updates are better as well. I really like the blonde girl who goes out on location to get a taste of what other people do for a living.

I think WBIR should do everything possible to keep Ben Senger and the present morning news team! I watch every morning. They are great! Not a wise move. Guess I'll have to switch to WATE.

I agree. I'm not a Russell Bivens fan either. I attended a charity luncheon where Russell was the guest speaker. He was horrible! He couldn't read his cards and couldn't pronounce any of the names - and we're not talking difficult names either. It was ridiculous. I left truly believing the man was illiterate.

is ben being fired? if so i will quit watching channel 10 . every time you get used to one then they go somewhere else. is it like our world is changing enough without news media doing it to. i like russell on live at five. why does everthing have to change?

Yarbrough is pretty good...McCloud is horrid! She misprounounces everything and her lack of general knowledge is appalling. She would make a perfect weather girl (see Julya Johnson)

i to wish the weather was better with witcher. the one that needs to go is beth haynes. talk bout being a ditz, she is a dippy ditz. channel 10 should look into replacing her. michelle and moira do a very good job. please get rid of beth
Your are crazy , Beth is so much better than
Michelle. Michelle tries to make a joke and its not funny at all. She is not a good reporter or anchor.
She needs to stick with Mora, Its the only thing keeping her afloat. Beth is great at reporting and anchor as well with Russ on live at five.Keep up the good job girl.

The new girl looks pretty decent. Lets hope she can actually read. Otherwise its another ex-beauty queen trying to play reporter,(ex Stacy McCloud, Beth Haynes, Michelle Silva)

One local who is easy on the eyes AND can actually report and pronounce is Kim Bedford.
She needs her own channel!!!

WOW..and you are from MARYVILLE? I know..why don't you clean your glasses? My 92 year old mom flat loves Beth and makes a point to be around the TV at 5 just for her. She is a great judge of people and finds her smile as real as real can be..her quote not mine.

As for the morning stuff...hey, it IS WBIR and they do have the TODAY SHOW so they will be fine.

Personally I go between IMUS, FOX and MORNING JOE
and if I am really bored I dash over to the Daily Buzzzz. Rupp is my fav cause I know the guy and he is just as nice and fun on the air as off. The others were OK and if Russ can stand the hours he will add a spark that they never had.

Not a clue about the new person excpet it looks like she started in the business in 2006? I could be wrong and most likely am...but I think I saw that in her bio.

Nothing wrong with that either.

Also if the show bombs they can alway hire Gene back and move Robin to mornings. Their old numbers were amazing.

this station has a rotten track record of how they treat their on air staff.(i've known more than a few who worked here.)

year to year contracts at unequal pay rates.

terri gruca thru abby ham.
all got the heck outta town after one year.

ben and abby were a great morning team.
you didn't feel like you were just watching talking heads reading off of a teleprompter.
(like the other stations in the mornings.)

this new girl will last just a year and she'll bolt.
and russel biven........??
c'mon.

Charter,
You have gone from being very annoying to becoming quite humorous with the "way you roll".

Wow... I am just... stunned. Why do we have so many anchors leaving WBIR? I think it would be very intelligent and wise for the station to reconsider it's foundation and make improvements to gain some stability. Otherwise - the viewing audience could become frustrated enough to move on. Local television news teams are like... the mailman... your local barber... etc. You tend to look forward to seeing the same folks every day. And let's face it - employee turnover in any company is the first bruise to it's health and integrity. Don't get me wrong. I have grown to enjoy and love the entire team. But this business of good folks leaving... smells.

Silva better than Haynes? You have got to be kidding me. I cannot stand how she CONSTANTLY interrupts guests on Style. Also, whenever someone is cooking, during EVERY SINGLE RECIPE, GUARANTEED, she will ask some sort of health-related question (e.g. Can you use low-fat, Is this low in carbs, etc, etc, etc). I CANNOT STAND IT.

Teresa, it's actually pretty simple: the anchors WANT to leave in order to ADVANCE their careers. Knoxville is the #58 media market in the US. Unless you REALLY enjoy this area, why not "move on up" if you are given the chance?

News personalities are always climbing up or down the career ladder in the various markets.
The main idea is to do a good job in a smaller market to be noticed in a market a little bigger, and paying a little more money.
Of course, the ultimate would be to work up to a network position. it's much like going through the minor leagues in baseball to the majors.
Not everyone is successful in this, of course, and some decide to stop chasing rainbows and settle down in one market, perhaps even in another field (politics or p-r are two examples). This is especially true of the distaff side, who frequently give up their careers in favor of love (gasp!).

it also has alot to do with (the girls anyway)
of year to year contracts at low pay.
while others get multi year deals.

the good ones split and the ones that nobody else will take, stay.

All of these people may be news anchors, but they are also human beings. How would you feel if someone sat on their computers and anonymously criticized you? It's sad and it's pathetic. This forum should be used to congratulate the local personalities on their new opportunities. It's not about spreading hate or trying to tear a person down. If you don't like, don't watch. Simple as that.
