Well not every scout is perfect like you. Things happen.

It is soooo easy to get lost in those mountains. It can be treacherous country. My Papaw used to help search for missing people in the backcountry of the Smokies, and I accompanied him a time or two. They didn't always find the target of their searches. Don't be so dang mean. No one is perfect. Thank God the boy scouts have been found safe and sound.

I hope you really aren't an Eagle Scout. The ones I know would not make such a ridiculous statement, and apparently you didn't really read the story. They were prepared, and were smart enough to stay put until daylight. In fact, even one of their moms was confident while they were "lost" that they were actually fine and were just off schedule. Which turned out to be pretty much the case. Way to go guys...good job.

"Donna Johnston with the Boy Scouts' in Raleigh says the scouts had gotten off a trail last night in Hayward County and waited until daylight before resuming their hike."

Sounds like they were smarter than most that "get lost" in the Smokies...They were never lost, they just spent ther night before trying to hike out in some light...sounds like a plan...had they continued to walk after dark, they would have been lost.

Besides, it never said they were lost, just missing.

It was a very smart decision for the scouts to only hike during the daylight. Orienteering at night is very challenging.

If you ever get lost in the woods, simply follow a creek downstream. It will take you to civilization.

Sounds more like you just wanted to see your name on the sight and enjoy making a mockery of other's situations. If you really are an Eagle Scout - you need to be stripped of a few of your badges - because that is not the Eagle Scout way!

Actually your best chances of being found are if you stay put as soon as you realize you are lost. The more you hike trying to found your way back, the greater the liklihood that you will travel outside the search area. Along with other survival gear a whistle for signaling is a good idea & doen't take up much room.

They did exactly what they were trained to do. Nightime in the Smokies is not a good time to be on the trail. They were not lost it was simply that nighttime came upon them and they setup camp. This comment from a long time Eagle Scout and still very proud of the training I received.

They were not found because they were not lost. You must be lost to be found. Remember LOST AND FOUND. They were boy scouts that were trained very well indeed. Way to go Scout leaders, who trained them.
