What are your thoughts about the layoffs announced yesterday by Tennova Healthcare in Knoxville, formerly Mercy Health System?

Clearly the system was not being managed correctly. If systems and processes are to change then the same managers cannot be left in place because they are unable to do the job. If what remains is still not adequate then more change will be needed.

I think this is just the first wave of several to come, unless the number of patients increase and the reimbursement increases as well. Neither is likely. This is a for-profit group and they will do whatever they have to for profitability. These cost reductions are just the low hanging fruit. Once they have a chance to identify the waste and duplication there will be many more.

I have to agree with John. I am a Tennova employee and this is a scary time for us. A lot of good people lost their jobs this past week. Most of them,it seems, had been there many many years and were close to retirement, which is a sad truth. Bottomline is that the merger with Baptist never should have happened and it would still be St. Mary's and we would still be focused on The poor and underserved. That's why I started for St. Mary's years ago. Unfortunately I don't see myself staying there much longer with the restructuring.I am not in fear of losing my job personally, but you never know what could happen.
People were surprised about the layoffs, but if everything was working properly then we would not have been sold. Changes had to happen, just sooner than we were led to believe.

I do feel sorry for the employees. I also agree that the BHS / St. Mary's merger did not make any sense. I don't think it was the merger at fault for this happening, though. neither health system should never have built new facilities and gone further and further into debt with no real way for the revenue from these facilities to offset the cost. Both systems should have focused on being the best with what they had in place.

Even after the HMA buy-out, local management basically stayed the same. Same poor management, same poor results.

What a shame, because clinically, these are great facilities.

I think that Tennova needs to pay more attention to their Medical courier. They have a very weird courier that ask women for their names and numbers and he also takes pictures/videos of womens butts.
His girlfriend of over 3 years finally left him. She stated to him many times that it is very unproffesional, that it hurt her, that that's disrspecting and she has stated that she will never go back to Tennova nor take her kids. No, it's not the hospitals fault, but doing things like this has me worried to death...I to have children and won't go there bc of the stalker if you will. Anyways, its not only at hospitals its everywhere he goes. Women and girls are getting this done to and its not good. I now hate going anywhere especially with my daughter. Why do ppl do things like this. The hospital is somewhere that you feel safe and secured but it's NOT///// sorry for venting about this but my best friend has a hard time trusting and doesn't feel comfortable, I have to pick her groceries up and e everything. He has robbed her of finding true love. He disrespect her and lots of others

The place is over rated. They care less about patients. Short staffed.

I agree. Its an awful place. They killed my mom. If you care about your loved ones you won't take them there. The doctors are terrible.
