Trio's isle visit on Russian visas angers Tokyo

Full story: The Japan Times

Three Japanese men Saturday defied government guidance by traveling to one of the Russian-held islands off Hokkaido on Russian visas.

The government's position is that traveling under such terms implies Japan recognizes Moscow's jurisdiction over the islands, which Tokyo lost during the war and wants returned.

"It's quite regrettable," Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara told reporters in Tokyo early Sunday.

"We will give them a stern warning as soon as they return to Japan."

Perhaps it will be better for them to ask for Russian political asylum. We know how mad Japanese government can be. We can give political asylum to all Japanese people who have a good attitude towards Russia and who are under illegal pursuing by Japanese officials because of that.

Maybe some time ago Japan have enslaved Koreans, exterminated Chinese and humiliated Russians, but that time had passed and the only thing stayed untouched is the Japan's reputation in Eastern Asia as a barbarian state. Under political and military control of the United States.

Oh and what are you going to do tough guy. Occupy Japan with your chinese friends and "punish" them. ha ha ha

As I remember correctly you guys occupied Xinjiang from 1937 to 1949 so I don"t think the chinese like you very much no matter what that infamous liar Hu Jintao says.

South koreans are thankful they are not part of North Korean prison state you russians created. Siberian russians wished to be part of Japan.

Why should we need to "be liked very much"? All what we need is honest partnership and cooperation.

South Korea is one of our best technology partner in Asia. Germany in Europe, South Korea in Asia. As for Siberian Russians - you mistook them with Finns, perhaps. Nobody in Asia want to live under Japanese rule. People know how it was. Worse than under Stalin.

What makes me laugh about this is the brazen attitude of Russia - not just here but in general -
Lets not forget the Russians not too long ago threatened the USA with war over their involvement in Georgia,(they were flying Georgian troops back from Iraq) and the USA backed down!!(a C-130 even turned around in MID AIR!!)

compare Russia to China - in regards to island dispute.

chine says things like
"oh but on this 16th century map it's part of china - blah blah blah"

Russia simply says
"It Belongs to us now"
japan : "but its been part of Japan for thousands of years!!"
"Da, and now it is part of Russia"

and unfortunately for the Japanese

YOU DO NOT WANT TO FUCK WITH RUSSIA

its the perfect combination of military power strong enough to destroy a country in hours, sustain a long drawn out campaign indefinitely - and Leaders balsy enough to actually do that.

We don't support him. We support non-escalating of the situation. We don't need a war close to our borders on Far East and we don't want to see a nuclear blasts there.

Do you seriously believe Kim Jong could stay in power if not for food aid comming from Russia and China? I mean come on!

You could at least help americans to remove the man. Yes people starving is bad but faster they get Kim Jong out and more a democratic leadership the better they will be.

I don"t support the idea of foreigners exploiting them for cheap labour how ever it still would be good for them if their country was more open to the rest of the world.

As for german style solution to Korea. It depends if koreans themselves are ready. Of course Russia and China would oppose korean reunification.

Seeing impossibility to save his power, he can start the war. He is not very predictable, but he can start the war and use nuclear weapons if there will be the real treat to his power over the nation.

American have no realistic plan how to dethrone him. International sanctions and embargo are not a solution because of the reason I had written above. U.S. are far from this region and the war will not affect them in a bad way. Moreover, they could be interested in the war so they can accept this risk even with a pleasure. For Russia and China the war on our borders is unacceptable. Radioactive clouds and rains, millions of refugees and so on...

The situation is absolutely different to German. In Germany economic situation in Eastern part was not so bad and they were ready to unite. In Korea we have awfully poor North and rich South. I don't think South want to take North on their balance. At least, situation in the North should be greatly improved before that. And it will need maybe a couple of decades of developing to do that.

North Korea wouldn't be such a sh1t place to live if the rest of the world traded with them etc.
But as it happens the USA goes out of its way to screw the North Koreans -
they can't really export anything and they can barely import anything. of course they are f*cked.

since when did you go Mother Theresa on Koreans? I thought you hated everyone around.

anyways, how do you know if people actually want this a$s-hole "out"? They might fight to death to protect their leader, how do you know how brainwashed they are.

and you can't be so sure that Putin would oppose the unification, after all they are unpredictable and Russia can sell them a lot of crap no normal country would ever buy if they open their markets.

We ALL thought that. Bascially it is a post fascist society with a lot of RULES, which had a democracy imposed on them by America.
Some people dont like democracy though-it goes against the whole Neo Confucian thing.

Right. In WW2 you could not "live" under Japanese rule if you were Japanese-they just wanted to exterminate or enslave all non Japanese. Some comfort women managed to survive though, by luck.
Stalin wasnt stupid-he loosened his rule during WW2 so people would support him.
Hitler and Doihara mandated policies of cruelty in occupied territories; people who had greeted them as liberators with flowers were often murdered.

If Japanese citizens visit Kuril islands, the Soviet zone of occupied Japan after WW II, why does Japan object to its citizens visiting Japanese territory? All it may acknowledge is Russian occupation (which is the reality), not sovereignty.
If Japan wants the Kuril Islands back, they have to go neutral or allow the Russians to keep a base in them as long as the Americans keep a base in the Ryukyu Islands.

Daily Horoscope for May 18

Cancer

Love could catch you by surprise today. You might be strongly attracted to someone who isn't your usual type at all but who makes your knees go weak all the same, or you could get caught up in an illicit relationship that's exciting because it has to be kept a secret. If you're already involved with someone they'll need plenty of freedom and won't appreciate feeling emotionally tied down. You need to let them off the leash for a short while!
