Was it necessary to bomb Hiroshima? I think so. It took two bombs on two cities for them to get the message. We saved well over 100,000 American lives by not having to invade Japan. I suppose the japs still think we should have capitulated and let them win the war or something.

Anyone remember Pearl Harbor?? The Japanese started the war, and would have fought to the last person if we had to invade mainland Japan. If those 2 bombs did anything, it SAVED lives...both Japanese and American. So don't hand me the boo hoo over Hiroshima...No apology necessary. Oh by the way, have the Japanese EVER apologized for Pearl Harbor?? I think not!!

Get over it already. And asking for an apology from the USA is pathetic. If Japan were not a fascist empire that was invading all of East Asia, enslaving people, torturing people, and attacking Pearl Harbor ... the USA might not have paid much attention. The Japanese emperor believed he was a god, Japanese soldiers were tweaked up on methamphetamines. The American military fought nobly, honorably, and bravely. We did what had to be done. We droped one small atomic bomb and Japan still refused to surrender. They demanded the second.

Dear Daily News Editor - how about posting pictures of the devastation at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1944 with this story?

P.S. Truman had the balls to do what was necessary to end the war and the suffering of the AMERICAN people. He would have dropped No. 3, No. 4, AND No. 5 if the Japanese had continued.
The Japanese surrendered without apology. I feel no sympathy for them, nor any need to apologize.

I'm really sick of revisionist history by liberals and foreign competitors designed to demean the USA.

The Russians should have tested the Tsar Bomba at full yeild in the center of Japan.

THANK YOU! It's not like THEY didn't START the freaking aggression. They could have STOPPED at any time. IT TOOK THE BOMB to MAKE them stop.

No one should be attending. They deserved what they got.

The balls that all of today's leaders seem to lack.

For example - if anti-piracy forces would kill any pirates captured, and blow up their boats, they'd stop - or die. For some, that's what it takes.

Thanks again for your posts!

"Americans think that the bombing was reasonable because it speeded up the end of the war. They try to see it in a positive way," Naomi Sawa, a 69-year-old former teacher, said after paying her respects to the dead. "But we were devastated."

Sorry, but you were supposed to be devastated. It was war, and the Japanese never pulled their punches. There was no sign they were prepared to call it quits, even though they were beat.

Truman would have rightfully been impeached if hundreds of thousands of American boys had died because he didn't use the Bomb. It was the only way to bring the militarists running Japan to their senses.

"The site of the world's worst atomic bomb attack..."

What kind of lead is that? If there is a site of the world's best atomic bomb attack, I'd like to know about it.

Interesting point of history...it was a democrat who used "weapons of mass destruction," and it was a democrat who took part in a biggest example of "racial profiling" by sending Japanese-American's to internment camps.

The Japanese forget that the Allied bombing tactics at this time included firebombing entire cities. Had the two bombs not been droppped the civilian death toll would have been in the millions from bombing alone...the follow up invasion..keep counting. So, how about a simple "THANK YOU" for ending the war and keeping death tolls on both sides low.

I'd like the Japanese to pay us back for providing their national security for the last 60 years, which allowed them to devote all of their resources to becoming an economic powerhouse rather than funding an expensive military.

The Japanese got what they had coming. If they didn't like getting A-bombed, they should have remembered that they started the whole mess, and what goes around comes around.
