I was stationed in Iwakuni with the Navy doing a tour with the Marines between 82 and 83. I've been to Sako's and its so very true that they have the best BLT if not the world, but in Asia/Pacific. The thick bacon, bread and huge tomatoes tasted so good. I wish I had a chance to get back there.

I and my Buddie Ken, would go there alot little place, man in the kitchen back was curved, he was pretty old as was his wife who took the orders, not sure how they made the mayo but the whole sand was delicious, you must have the coke in the old glass bottle with it.

I was stationed at Iwakuni in 74-75,and 77-78,I agree that Sako's had the best BLT I've ever had. He would mix mustard with the mayo. The bacon was fantastic,as was the whole sandwich. They had other items on the menu, but I never found out if they were good,I only had eyes for the BLT.

I was TAD to MCAS Branch Hospital in 88 and I had heard about the World's "BEST BLT". That is expressing it mildly, their BLT is to die for! If I ever visit Iwakuni, I WILL most definitely go there again.

Best darn BLTs I ever tasted. In 1971-72, you could get a BLT and small, old-style bottle of Coke for 200 yen total. Just think, enough to fill you up for about 67 cents!

UDP many times to MCAS Iwakuni. Stationed with VMFA-212 and family. Took wife to Sako's, she and I love the BLT and Coke. Her favorite thing to say is the Japanese make their food to look like the picture on the menu. And the BLT is picture perfect.

I was in Iwakuni in 74-75 with 1st MAW. The Sako BLT is by far the best anywhere in the world, and any marine stationed there will probably say the same. Semper Fi!

1983 I was in Iwakuni with MAG-15 Ordnance. I have never had a better BLT anywhere in the world than at SAKO's in Iwakuni.

Currently with 1st Maw, the old place has been sold and mama and papa are no longer there, but the new owners have kept it going.
Hope it goes on forever..

Did two tours at MCAS Iwakuni. '89-90 and again in '92-93. Used to hit Sako's regularly. Their BLT's really are that good.

Hello, I just read your comments. 3 years ago, my husband and I took over SAKO from previous owner as they retired. Many people come to our such a tiny shop and very thankfully they say *wonderful BLT* I work at medical clinic on the base, MCAS Iwakuni now almost 35 years. Please send me your mail to Missie.hamano@med.navy.mil. CMC Gen Amous came to Iwakuni last year and this year. He ordered 14 BLTs both time to take them on an airplane!! I would like to send you pictures of us and our BLTs. Thank you so much for your comment. Sincerely Missie from Iwakuni. Do you remember me? I was there when you came but i don:t rememer you.

I was stationed in Iwakuni 73-74, I agree that Sako's had the best BLT I've ever had. I was in VMCJ -1. I did find other great places to eat each with it's own winner on the menu.

Hello US soldiers. Remember when your grandparents fought against the Japanese in WWII? You guys hated them for their malicious acts in war. Well, let me tell you something. If some of you don't mind, please go on the main Japanese Topix forum and tell "Ainu" that he is a jackass for assuming American or Canadian civilians are nothing but garbage compared to his "glorious Japanese master race." Ainu is a Nazi Imperialist who believes the Emperor System of Japan is the way to educate the people of Japan. He is also far right wing.

Honestly, asking you guys is an act of attention who#ring, but every reply counts to stop evil in my opinion. And Ainu is evil.
