>Over a thousand eye surgeries performed under Jamaica-Cuba programme<

By Alecia Smith-Edwards

KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS)-- Some 1,250 persons with specific eye conditions benefitted from 1,410 procedures conducted under the Jamaica/Cuba Eye Care programme during 2012.

This was disclosed by coordinator of the programme, Gregory Thomas, in a recent interview. He further informed that over 16,000 consultations also took place last year.

The programme, which seeks to help reduce preventable blindness in adults, evolved from the five-year Jamaica/Cuba Eye Care Project, which previously saw persons being screened for eye conditions in Jamaica and sent to Cuba for treatment.

“The first bilateral agreement of co-operation between the governments of Jamaica and the Republic of Cuba for the establishment of an Ophthalmology Centre of Excellence in Jamaica, where persons would be treated for eye disorders here instead of having to seek treatment abroad, was signed on July 28, 2009. This marked the end of an era spanning five years and the beginning of a new one,” he said.

Launched in January 2010, the programme offers surgical treatment for persons suffering from three specific conditions: cataracts, diabetic retinopathy (damage to the retina caused by complications of diabetes mellitus) and pterygium (a non-cancerous fleshy growth, usually on the surface of the eye), free of cost.

Thomas further noted that, since the programme’s inception, over 46,000 consultations have been done; over 4, 200 surgeries have been performed; and over 3,790 patients have received surgical treatment.

The coordinator said that the programme will continue to provide the highest level of care to patients, with a view to keeping the number of complications to a minimum.

“Since the start of the programme, there has been only one case of serious complication of the over 4,200 surgeries performed,” Thomas said.

Nice try, Multi-Names. but ONE error in forty-two hundred operations, and you prattle on about it? You should be so lucky in Miami, or anywhere else in the USA, for that matter. How many United States Eye-Surgeons are doing ANYTHING SIMILAR, FOR FREE, IN ANY COUNTRY AROUND THE WORLD? Suck it up, bud, your ass, is sucking air.

If cuba did 10 million eye surgeries it would not make for the rivers of blood he and his murderous brother Raoul have spilled. the cuban people deserve better than these murderous thugs.

We don't have slave-physicians in the U S yet, despite obamacare. It will never happen here despite you left wing bozos pushing for it. I am a physician, if I don't get well compensated for my work, I'd rather go flip burgers at the BK or do aS YOU DO, and collect for sitting on my azz. Those slaves in Cuba, don't know any better. Once they reach the free world and their eyes are opened, they dont work like slaves any more...JERK!

EL GUARRO

El chancho"(so called by his fellows due to his odor similar to boiled kidneys, due to his poor hygiene and lack of bathing or showering) che guevara was the communist pig that gave the firing squad to many innocent Cubans and took great delight in doing so. He was a racist and particularly enjoyed humiliating the Cuban negroes & mulatoes as well as the native Amerindian Mexicans whom he despised and made no effort to conceal while he was in Mexico.
Since he was a commander just like fidel, and was bolder than fidel, he enjoyed great power. fidel did not like the competition so he send him off on mission to Bolivia, where he was killed as fidel expected. This gave the revolution a martyr, while removing the competition, as well as producing an icon for the revolution.
It is said by those that found che, that he said: "Don't shoot, don't shoot I'm che & I'm worth more alive than dead, don't shoot" The soldiers that found him laughed & told him to say his last prayers, he cursed God, begged, cried, made offers to his captors, whined, wet his pants, soiled his pants, sobbed, BANG! Justice was done!
He who had killed so many, and took so much delight in doing it, died like the coward he was!

¡¡¡¡¡¡Good riddance, the stinking "chancho" is dead!!!!!!

**********What few people know is that while he claimed the title Doctor while he lived in Cuba, he never graduated from Medical School. The reason his fellow revolutionaries called him "che" was originally to denigrate him, because they refused to call him doctor or comandante, since those close to him looked down on him. The nickname stuck, and since in the Cuban jargon the word is unknown, it readily identified him. The people of Argentina use this word very liberally just as the Americans use the word "dude" or "man" or "guy". The myth is that he was a guerrilla expert, facts are that he never, not once, carried out a successful guerrilla activity.]

The skeleton of his hands is in Cuba. His dismembered body ROTS among the feces of a septic tank of an undisclosed outhouse somewhere in Bolivia!

BURN IN HELL FOR ETERNITY, PIG, PERPETUALLY!!!!

More and more people in USA have no health care and suffering but multi names being the hypocrite and fascist who he is lies.

Did you know that MANY Americans travel to Cuba for surgery which they can not have in their own USA because can't afford it?

The CIA with the fascist Cubans in Miami have done all they could to lie and distort reality.

US Targeting Cuba’s Health-Care System"

The U.S. government’s half-century campaign to discredit and destroy Cuba’s experiment with socialism has had many ruthless aspects, but perhaps none more so than efforts to disparage and damage the Caribbean island’s widely admired health-care system
