People don't steal enough paintings anymore. It's probably the coolest and most sophisticated crime.

I like that this guy stole the painting for reasons of patriotism. Almost admirable...

Art theft kind of makes me happy. Does that make me a miscreant? Somehow being stolen gives a painting an aura of mystery.

Did he have reason to think France had gotten the painting unfairly? Often art work is lent out and then just never returned. I wonder if this was the case when King Francois I came into possession of it.

This video has the history of this attempt, and some other damages/attempts at theft of the Mona Lisa.

Really shocking when you think about it. Someone stealing the Mona Lisa and trying to get away with it. Some people are not as smart as they think they are.
