Poll finds soaring European support for US policy

Full story: NewsTimes.com

European support for the U.S. president's handling of foreign policy has soared since President Barack Obama took over from former President George W. Bush, but Europeans continue to view major issues including Afghanistan, Iran and global warming differently than Americans view them, a poll released Wednesday found.

Without consideration of the ethnic background of either President Obama or former President Bush, it is clear that President Obama is :

1. Harder working - by this point in his first term, President Bush was on his second five-week vacation - ignoring the August 6th 2001 Presidential Daily Briefing that gave clear warning about "bin Laden looking to strike the U.S. using planes as weapons".

2. More willing to listen to alternative viewpoints.

3. Much more intellectually motivated. President Bush continued his college plan of dismissing professors and other students ideas while in the White House. He cared little about evidence - trusting what he knew intuitively.

My take on the complaints of those who choose screaming and name calling over real discussion is that they are frightened by the thought of a non-white who is smarter than them.

Its the Obama celebrity they like. His foriegn policy, other than is trips around the world to apologize for anything and everything, is essentially the same as Bush. Gitmo is still open, we are still in Iraq and Afghanistan, etc., etc.

" It was conducted by the German Marshall Fund of the United States, a nonpartisan policy institution that promotes trans-Atlantic cooperation, and the Compagnia di San Paolo, a research center in Turin, Italy. " Well that survey is useless. But if they are so high on him... take him please! The "nonpartisan policy institution" is hilarious though.

I'm sure you wouldn't post an inflammatory remark like that without a substantive link to provide facts to backup your statement...?

Especially from Communists? Socialists? Community organizers? Union thugs? His shadow government czars?

Yeah, Hussein was quite the student we're TOLD...but gee, he won't release his records for us to vet him. Bet Hussein can quote Saul Alinsky backwards and forwards. GW wisely trusted his gut feelings, not some far-left manual.

You should put the lie at the end of your discussion. That way intelligent people will at least read your other points with an open mind. When a person begins with a blatant lie, I am quite skeptical of the rest of that persons comment. There was no clear warning. The vague warning suggested that there might be hijackings similar to earlier hijackings or that there might be attacks, of an unknown nature, on government buildings.

Maybe these are some things euro dudes and dudettes like:

1. The Special Olympics joke.
2. The gift to Gordon Brown (cheap incorrectly formatted dvds).
3. The gift to the Queen of England (an ipod of Obama's speeches).
4. Bowing to the Saudi king.
5. Referring to the "Austrian" language while visiting Austria.
6. A cabinet and group of advisors who can't keep current on their income taxes.
7. His facility with Spanish (saying Cinco de Cuatro several times in front of the Mexican ambassador on May 4).
8. Misspelling the word advice (probably just solidarity with Dan Quayle).
9. Burning 9000 gallons of jet fuel to plant a tree on Earth Day.
10. Buzzing downtown Manhattan with Air Force One and a jet fighter.
11. His ability with and reliance on a teleprompter.
12. Ignoring flood victims in the Midwest with more people made homeless and killed than in New Orleans during Katrina.
13. Spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to take his wife to a play in NYC.

They need to spend less time watching American Idol reruns in euroland.

Indeed.

With "Classic European" political ideas like COMMUNIST VAN JONES crony appointed to a major power broker position in the White House, what's for Europe not to like about this "brave new world" American President?

Because, we lowly American should always look to Europe for our models of MORALITY, ETHICS and FAIR PLAY, shouldn't we?

After all, I really liked my classic 66 VW - why not fully embrace the European style "Political Wisdom" that created such a fine automobile?

I scoff at your insistence that Van Jones was a "major power broker." Please, Van Jones, first of all, had relatively little power in the administration. Second of all, Van Jones, ideologically speaking, could not possibly be a Communist. I know you've never read his book or anything, but it's called the Green Collar Economy, and it's a completely pro-business, pro-entrepreneurship, and pro-capitalist. Obviously, if he were a "Communist" (OMG SOOO SCARY!!1!!111!), he would never espouse such views.

But nice try at being Glenn Beck. It's comforting to know the other side gets their information from a drug addicted drunk who never went to college and got into radio on accident by winning a contest and believes that Native Americans are a lost tribe of Israel.

-So if I were a liberal I would ask and I'm wondering where moveon.com is on this:
1) Why are their still 130k troops in Iraq?
2) Why are escalating the war in Afganistan?
3) Why is Obama getting a free pass on military adventurism? Can't say he inherited it because he could have brought the troops home! Also, Color for me has never been the issue. Policy has. He has followed Bush's strategy to the tee!
1) Surge in Afghanistan- Where did we see this one.
2) He still has Bush people running security! Gates! Also Blackwater? Next he'll be handing out contract to Haliburton! No change between Bush or Obama on foreign policy. Also, where is Bin Ladin. He said he was going to get him. Its been 6 months! Not so easy is it!

it takes time to accomplish these things, you cannot just pull out of a war at the drop of a hat, it takes planning they are doing that now. as for gitmo, the order has been signed and inmates from there are getting trials, and moving one step closer to being incarcerated in an appropriate place, or released to the appropriate country. sessions skateboard company has decided to move from scottsvalley, they decided this over a year ago, and have been moving out for months. you are so impatient, these moves on a national level can take years.

there are still troops in iraq, because bush had no exit strategy, and these things take time to sort out, we are escalating the war in afghanistan, because that is where bush should have gone in the first place, that is where the terrorist are. obama is not getting a free pass, he inherited the same mess that bush helped to create, im sorry but war is an unfortunately necessary evil at times. you sound rather partisan, obama has said all along that he wanted to work with republicans and not against them, using the republican owned contractors shows goodwill toward the republican party, unfortunately the party of no, is not reciprocating. i think he should drop the bi partisan crap myself, as you can never please everyone

Having a black President does not bother me in the least. My dream ticket was Alan Keyes and Ezola Foster. I continue to support several black non-socialist congressional candidates and PACs.

My theories about this Neo - Radical Kenyan Extreemist have been right all along. Obama is backed by huge Euro Money and Globalisation interests that wish to install a one world leader. Right now competition is stiff between the head of the Russian Mafia: Vladimir Putin and the head of Anti American Extreemist: Barack Hussein. Both of these two world leaders are idolized by Germany and the rest of the self appointed CZARS of the European Union.

Did you SERIOUSLY just claim that GWB "wisely trusted his gut feelings"?!?!

Wow, you just exposed your ignorance beyond the pale, given all that we now know.

I guess some still refuse to see where he was clearly in the wrong and therefore their support for his policies were wrong.

Seriously where do people like you come from? Are you a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic? Do you honestly believe in this One World government crap? Are we all doomed?! Should I go grab a gun and lock myself in the basement with canned food supplies and water to last years?!

Honestly, healthy skepticism of politicians is a good thing, but this is just plain ludicrous.

I would be more concerned about corporate dollars from the defense industry, health care industry, big pharma, etc. that are able to buy influence with our politicians, not this conspiracy BS. You should focus on something more tangible and obvious before working into the abstract...
