The skinny, healthy women cost society a bundle because they live so much longer, collecting social security, defined benefit pensions, medicare, medicaid, and health benefits under private erisa plans.

Highly unlikely:
Cigarettes generate REVENUE; therefore they will be around for a LONG time.

If the goverment was serious about reducing smoking then they would look at forcing the tobacco companies to phase out nicotine in cigarettes.

At times I am so happy the our local, state and federal goverments look out for us.

That's probably the worse and lamest excuse I've ever heard for continuing to smoke, and you're obviously not the only one who's said it. Do like my parents and grandparents did to quit smoking, substitute the urge for something else - that's healthier. My mother substituted sugar-free gum every time she got the urge and my grandfather substituted nuts. Both healthy alternatives and takes care of the oral fixation. Choose one of your own. Of course, there is also Chantix to help you quit, but the others are cheaper.

The Federal Aviation Administration has banned pilots and air traffic controllers from taking Chantix. The FAA has not banned them from smoking cigarettes. Which is worse, Chantix or cigarettes?
