It's only that low in countires that have an abundant oil supply of their own, are large net oil exporters, and where the government is subsidizing the cost using government money, that money usually being profits from oil exports.

So a weak dollar, supply and demand, irregularities in the commodity market have nothing to do with it? It's all the president's fault?

What we need to accomplish is educating people on where the problems truly are.

My My .... what needs to be accomplished is to get rid of the "troublemakers" we have in Washington DC for the past 7 years. These are people - the Bush Administration- who had the audacity to lie to the American people and take our country to war at a cost not imaginable. Oil is over priced because of our not elected president creating conflict throughout the world. It is too late to impeach, try and convict Bush and Cheney, let alone trying then for war crimes. The answer is to vote straight Democrat this November. Obama - Clinton in 2008. It is chilling for people who blindly follow the Republican banner that they have to support John McCain. It is time for a major change in the country. Vote straight Democrat in November. Clean out the Republicans from the US House and Senate, elect a Democrat President and the price of gas will drop by a buck a gallon within a year. Elect McCain for another Bush term and we'll pay $10. a gallon as this war mongering McCain has no plan but to continue the same failed policies of W.

<quoted text>yeah but human nature and physical reality are the same everywhere.
Our post WWII frantic suburban expansion and driving utopia required cheap and abundant oil to be able to work and to continue to operate. Without it we could never have McDeveloped all of that countryside and brought it our food from California and commuted long distances to work.
Well, sadly, cheap and abundant oil is rapidly becoming a thing of the past due to peak oil. This is only going to get worse. The real question is will our major systems still continue to operate, like food production and delivery, transportation, manufacturing, etc.
Europe has a different infrastructure that was developed with high energy prices in mind. So they have better mass transit, denser cities, food production is closer to where people live, etc.
When oil products start declining which system will suffer the bigger energy shocks?
wait another 5 years.. we will be back in the peak oil again.. there is drilling goin on and the rigs arent even online yet.. and they will be.. so relax.. We are all suffering, some more than others.. but its just like everything else.. cyclical. we had an energy crisis every decade.
