American flags were set on fire Friday to chants of "no, no for occupation" as followers of an anti-U.S. Shiite cleric marked the sixth anniversary of the Iraq war.

In five other Iraqi cities, supporters of cleric Muqtada al-Sadr also either marched or stood in protest after prayers to demand the release of their allies detained at Iraqi and U.S.-run prisons.

The military occupation of Iraq ended on June 28, 2004, when the Coalition Provisional Authority transferred power to the interim Iraqi government. Apparently these guys didn't get the word. But hey, let them march and protest and burn things in the street, enjoying their freedom of speech. Under Saddam's rule, the Fedayeen would have beaten and tortured them, then fed them feet first into shredders and delivered the remains to their families in garbage bags.

Seems like the 50,000,000 Iraqis aren't so happy about George Bush's liberation efforts. First they threw shoes at him, today they burn the U.S flag in protest of U.S. occupation.

I don't know what our 4000+ soldiers died for in Iraq, but it was never about WMDs or liberating Iraqis. I say we take their advice, and go home.

Really? Then why do we still have troops there? As long as we have soldiers there it's considered an occupation.

Great Job, George!

DUH!!!

Worst mistake ever by a US President.

We're only halfway able to get out of this Gigantic Fib. Another 10-15 years of Bush and Cheney's War...

Thanks again George and Dick - hope you got that job in the Dallas hardware store with the rest of the tools, George!

LoL.... they didn't get the memo.

... and neither did the thousands of US troops that are there right now!!!!

----------

If Iraqi troops occupied the white house with guns and bombs pointed at your family.... what would you do?

I am sure you would want to burn the Iraqi flag too.... prob try planting a bomb or two in the process as well.

It's just a piece of cloth.
Get over it.
and GET OUT OF IRAQ!!!!

Under this 'reasoning' we are currently occupiers of Germany, Korea, Japan, and need I go on. We will be in Iraq for years to come. We can only hope Bush was right, for if Iraq turns bad now after the success is bad for America and Americans.

Like it or not...everyone needs to be rooting for Iraq and hope they flourish as a democracy. I've seen in this country American's burning the flag (usually the Cindy Sheehan types), just as the al-Sadr Shiites have done in Iraq.

Hmm, so let's stop being PC and look at this for a moment. They are burning cloth. They are burning a symbol of the USA, nothing more. Let's not all get our "panties in a wad" about this, it's truely trivial if you look at the reality of it. A sign with Bush or Obama and a target over their face would be no worse a message.
