A Year Without Cable

There are 5 comments on the Dec 14, 2012, Wall Street Journal story titled A Year Without Cable. In it, Wall Street Journal reports that:

Having cut the cord 12 months ago, a long-time subscriber answers the question: Is it possible to survive on Netflix and Hulu alone? How are you? Can you believe it's been a year since we last saw each other? I remember handing the cable guy my set-top box like it was yesterday.

Easy to do. I have been without cable for almost two years. I have netflix and amazon prime. The local memphis stations stream their news and weather so I have no problem keeping up with the news.

If the networks have a show I want to watch, I just go to their website a day or so later and watch it. If they don't have it, it can be found elsewhere. It is really not that big of a deal.

I decided not to get a box like ruku but a cheap walmart computer for each tv, this way there are plenty of options of what can be watch. it is sure nice to be able to relax on the recliner with a wireless keyboard and mouse to surf the net while watching a movie.

I've thought about doing the same. Not sure I want to do without sports, though.

sports is about the only thing that cannot be replaced cheaply. You can subscibe to some sports networks or league and maybe find a free game or two with a search.

I don't really watch football or baseball these days. But I do watch the UFC on Fox and FX, and a considerable amount of golf.

So for now, I'll keep my cable.
