Series waits to see if its stars depart

Full story: The Indianapolis Star

In 2007, Dario Franchitti won the Indianapolis 500 in the rain, drove into the side of a teammate, got miffed at his boss, smashed a traffic cone on pit road and flipped his car twice.

"League officials are close to announcing a program that would distribute race purses more equitably among the teams. The goal is to strengthen current teams and attract new ones."

So they're working on making it even less worth while to win a race?

It won't be long before history shows that the worst decisions the IRL made came a decade after the split. They have no plan to come back and 'more of the same' isn't going to cut it.

The only thing worse than losing 1/3 of the winners from 2007 is the fact that it would be 1/2 if Honda weren't blackmailing Ganassi to keep Wheldon in indycars.

Anybody have an explanation for Carpentier being denied "rookie of the year" because he won in champcar? Anybody have an explanation why a former champcar winner was allowed to be 'rookie of the year' this year?

Looking ahead... a street event "around Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles". Oh what a vision! May I have some kool-aid please. And "Sarah Fisher will try to recover". Wasn't that what she was suppose to be doing this year; re-establishing herself? Time for her to go. She wasn't even in the hunt. Move on and start another chapter in your life Sarah... write your book, go back to school, start a career, become a mom, or something. And for Dreyer & Reinbold... give it up and close shop! The Racing business isn't for everyone. Let some other team become the Minardi of the IRL.

yeah, she should take a step down and go to ChampCars. She could hone her skills running with a pack of no-namers.

Is this a series question? You have to race in the 2007 season to be considered for the Rookie of the year. O.k. stay with me now go to INDYCAR.COM put in Dunos name, then RHR and then Carpentier and you should get it why RHR got rookie of the year. Of course you'll eliminate Carpentier, but It'll be a little exercise for you.

This is dumb there are no facts, I don't know what's wrong with this loser, he's lost. Patrick Carpentier didn't run this year in the IRL so why would he get rookie of the year?

Last night at the championship celebration Scott Dixon got his second place trophy and said "Welcome to the team" to Dario. So I think he's gone.

Man are you people qualified to be IRL fans.

I'm talking about why Carpentier wasn't rookie of the year in 2005.... try and keep up.

Okay.

Regarding Wheldon: Wheldon said Ganassi wants him to remain in Indy-car racing at least for the time being, which includes 2008. Wheldon is completing his fifth full season in the IndyCar Series, his second with Ganassi Racing.
"It's not a difference (of opinion), it's just a difference of timing," Wheldon said of Ganassi's position. "He doesn't really say why, but he thinks I should stay in Indy-car racing -- for Honda."
While Honda-badged engines power all of the Indy cars, the manufacturer has particularly close ties with the driver who won the Indianapolis 500 and the IndyCar championship in 2005.

You can find the rest here: http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...

As far as Carpentier goes...In 2005 He finished in the top ten at nine races and on the podium three times. Danica had only 5 top ten finishes and zero podium finishes.

Carpentier finished in the top ten in points... higher than anyone who had not raced previously in the IRL. Danica did not.

Danica was declared the rookie of the year in the series. Carpentier was not considered for this award because he had won races in champcar in a prior year.

Ryan Hunter-Reay SHOULD HAVE BEEN excluded from eligibility for the rookie of the year award this year.

Not only does indycar have no credibility... and the fans are not that bright either

Try to pay attention: Carpentier finished higher in the points than Danica did in her rookie season, but they ruled he wasn't a rookie because he had won in Champ Car. This year, Hunter-Ray, who has also won in Champ Car, was considered a rookie (presumably to keep the IRL from having to award rookie of the year to second place Milka).

Consistency isn't their strong suit.

Carpentier was shafted for the title in 2005 so that precious little Danica could win.

Is this your first year watching indycar?

Hunter-Reay should have been treated the same way... why didn't the IRL do it?

Sam and Dario need to stay in the IRL. This series needs as many drivers as possible.

I do not mind Sam doing a NASCAR race a few times a year though.

Thanks! Exactly what i wanted,a simple answer! I am not as familiar with the Indy Car rules as far as "Rookie Awards",Does it have anything to do with Team points? and or owner Points? D.N.F.'S or if you lead more laps? Just asking ok?
