AAA's status as the official auto club and auto insurance of the Indianapolis 500 also will end after this season. AAA made its decision this early in the year based on deadlines that were in its agreements.
Clubs that weren't geographically close to events weren't finding the national sponsorships useful, sources said, which contributed to AAA's decision to let the clubs make their own sponsorship choices.
and? Peak is on board this year.

<quoted text>Even if he finishes dead last at Daytona, he'll earn more money in one day than Crystal could earn in a year. Money that he will use to raise his son and pamper his wife. Fortunately, for the Hornish family, Crytal is a lot smarter than Stacy.
Sam will do all he can to be there, he's a good guy. Whose Stacy? Just curious.

He's got major issues is all, I honestly believe he's mentally ill. He hates kool aid, Indycar, Tony George, Taxi cabs <--------- his word for Nascar and me, lol. The last one is my greatest accomplishment.

I think that the IRL needs to have Tomas in a full-time ride. We're losing way too many name drivers.
That being said, the only time I've met Tomas personally was outside Broad Ripple Tavern in '03 when he was drunk as hell and had just gotten kicked out of the bar. He stumbled across the street almost getting run over a couple times. Its not shock that he's not put a big career together.
He's one hell of a racer though.
I saw Vitor in Broad Ripple he wasn't drinking but who cares what they do in their own time?

For the record, Tomas gave up partying a while ago and hasn't had a drink even socially in over a year.

And God knows I've never been drunk in Broad Ripple while visiting town, either. ;)

Gino daVino....that would be an obvious statement to the fact that the man is avoiding alcohol (wisely and I applaud him for this) due to an alcohol problem.
I believe that was stated earlier that there is an appearance of a rampant alcohol problem among the IRL drivers and this would fall into that category.
Multiple drunk driving arrests among other multiple drivers is another sign.

Step 1...he admitted he was powerless over alcohol.

Congratulations on 1 year of sobriety.

Heres wishing for many more and the added bonus of improved results with clearer faculties.

I used to hit Broad Ripple but they watered down the drinks and couldn't keep the beer cold enough. But lots of people like it.

If he did quit drinking, that's very good for him. Lord knows he was getting a really bad rep for that.
The problem is he wasn't visiting town, he lives here and it was the middle of the summer on an off-week for them when he was with Chip. Getting kicked out of Broad RIpple Tavern isn't an easy task, and he was by himself. He asked our group "where all the chicks were at"....
Sounds like behavior that warranted an Intervention.
Wonder who might have been in on that if it happened, as the IRL has "protected" their drinkers just as recently as last year when a famous driver by their standards was arrested.

Let's see now....He once drove for Panther, couldn't keep off the wall. He once drove for Ganassi, couldn't keep it off the wall. He once drove for Cheever and could not keep it off the wall. Maybe no one can afford this guy.
Maybe All State Car Insurance is a sponsor he could bring. You know this guy is goin' to wreck. Too many instances where he always gets 'caught-up'.

I love all kinds of racing and I am still a huge 500 fan but is this really what open wheel has come to? Is Scheckter coming back to Indy really what open wheel looks forward to? It really is amazing that not even 15 years ago it really was the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. Now it's not even the greatest spectacle in Indy. No matter what anyone thinks, the Brickyard passed a few years ago. If you doubt that, go ask Jugs catering (the speedway caterer) how much money they do in business in both of those. It's staggering how much more money the Brickyard brings in all the way around. If they're not careful the bike race will pass it in a few years also. Bottom line Tony, shell out the bucks to get the top guys back in and give NASCAR whatever they want for them to move the Coca Cola 600 so the NASCAR guys can drive in the 500. Could you image...Hornisch, Castroneves, Stewart, Gordon, Kahne, Allmendinger, etc. in Indy cars. You that doubt...Just make the winners take 10 mil and see what happens.
