Grand Am race at IMS? Speedway willing to talk about it

Jokingly asked if NASCAR had an interest in filling Indianapolis Motor Speedway's road course date vacated by Formula One, sanctioning body president Mike Helton smiled and said, "No, but I know somebody who ... Full Story

Michael Waltrip should just step-down as driver and try to concentrate on being an Owner. He wasn't that great a driver to start with. He is not Darryl.

Dump Bubba Mike Helton's taxi cab parade and bring in the American Le Mans Series. ALMS has more IRL ties than the NASCAR controlled Grand Am.

It would be great to see this. It would be great to see an ALMS race also. Why not use the track to it's fullest extent possible. TG could also run an IRL road course race too. Mrbeezy could race his hog hauler there. The possibilities are almost endless...

But he was perfect for what Nascar wants. B.S., smile, sign autographs and sell t shirts. Amazing that he lasted as long as he did. Here is some food for thought: Compare past Daytona 500 winners with past Indy 500 winners. Indy winners Foyt and Andretti both won Daytona. I'll put any Indy 500 winner against ANY Daytona 500 winner. Waltrip? Ward Burton? Derrick Cope? See what I mean.

While Grand-Am is a decent series, if you're looking for speed, technology, and manufacturer involvement, ALMS is the way to go. Trust me, Daytona Prototype cars will look very sluggish compared to LMP-1 cars in the ALMS. Also, the ALMS is pushing automotive technology by running diesel fueled cars in their top category. Talk to anyone who's been to both Sebring and Daytona, ALMS is the way to go.

i am a race fan . i dont care if it is shopping cart races , if it is competitive , i would go watch it.just because its not a persons type or favorite style of racing does not mean there aren`t fans of that genre in the indianapolis area.com etitive racing , on any level , is worth watching once or twice,or at least appreciating the fans that do enjoy that particular style /type of racing.i dont really care for american le mans racing , but that doesnt mean i think those race race fans are stupid for enjoying it .i say bring it and any other type of racing to the central indiana crowd that just plains likes racing.

I would like to see the AMS come to Indy. How about a 12 Hours of Indy? You could spend a little time in the Grand Stands, wander around the course some, whatever. While I do enjoy the Brickyard, a different format would be a nice variation. And if they bring the Grand Am series, that's fine, too. Heck, get them both here. Just my two cents.

Shoot let's have a race every weekend. We got late models, midgets, go carts, shoot put some horses on that sucker. It's all good and maybe, just maybe, it will help the city, county, and state get a grasp on personally taxing us to a slow death by bring in outside money. Can't affort that ticket either.

In no way did I suggest that people who go to cab races are stupid. I appreciate anyone's dedication and enthusiasim of motor sports events, but..........cabs ARE boring at INDY.
AMLS is a better fit to the track.

Another minor league event? Why not just put in a 1/4 mile dirt track and use the golf course for an ATV track?

NO CHAMP CAR EVENTS (until that great day when there is only one series and IMS & IndyCar become legit again)

Good new for Hunter-Reay. He is a race car driver. Simmons is not.

You know what I'd like to see? A monster truck race. like 15 monster trucks, 10 laps around the track. No car crushing, lets just see how fast those bad boys can go.

CCWS championship is that tight? After all these years I was beginning to believe that it was nothing more than a one car show. Tried watching the LVGP earlier this year... what a pukefest of a race... maybe I'll try again next year "if" there's still a CCWS.

I'm a big fan of Grand Am, would be great to see an endurance race in Indy.

What I don't understand is why the IRL isn't thinking about running on the roadcourse now that they have a road racing package in that series.

ALMS would be the way to go. Either a 6 or 12 hour race. No Grand AM though. Daytona Prototypes should not even be classified as sports cars. Grand AM is the ugly result of the NASCAR family getting involved in sports car racing and trying to monopolize all forms of motor sports in America.
