3 for the Show

Full story: The Indianapolis Star

It remains unclear when the Indianapolis 500 first heard "Gentlemen, start your engines," but there is no debate over when the traditional command required a change.

For the life of me, I do not understand why the call to start engines hasn't been changed to DRIVERS, START YOUR ENGINES.
It encompasses the entire field regardless of sex, and please, don't give me "tradition" as they have obviously changed with the times.

Mark Donahue, Peter Reveson, Al Unser, Sr. Bobby Unser, Mario Andretti, Gordon Smiley, Rick Mears, Wally Dallenbach, Bill Vukovich, Eddie Sachs, Pat O'Conner, Dave McDonald, Andy Granitelli, Art Pollard, Salt Walther, Swede Savage, Johnny Rutherford, A.J. Foyt and Mario Andretti. I wish Anton Hulman and USAC were still running what was the greatest spectacle in racing back in the day.

Money, ego, and ignorance. As Shakespere said, "Pride goeth before the fall."

Danica almost won Indy? When? That's a steaming pile of hype. When they stop hyping the fact they're women that'll be the day there's equality (and also the loss of a PR angle for the speedway). Danica has a ride because she's sexploited herself into it....Billie Jean King will be so proud of her soft porn prostitution that got her this far. Indy is a joke friends....the focus is on the sideshow NOT the racing! Boycott INDY to show your disapproval and open your eyes to the disasterous effect Tony George has had on the 500 and american open wheel racing.

There are going to be more part time drivers in this years race then ever. Talk about field fillers. At least half the field does not belong in the field. Talk about the greatest spectacle in racing becoming just another race. That's what happens when someone is more concerned with being a dicator and wants power versus caring about racing and the Speedway. He even has to expand his own team to 4 cars just to have enough bodies out on the track. That's why TV ratings have dropped well over 60% since King Tony wanted to become KING

Unfortunately the race has turned into one big yawn.

Buy a car, the same one as everybody else has, get in the race, big deal.

One of three teams will win. It's the same as it always was even before Mr. Hulman changed things around so we'd have better, more affordable competetition and more American drivers...

It didn't quite work out, did it.

Where IS Robin MIller?

Oh, and the IRL needs minimum weight requirements - then we'd see how well Danica did in qualifying.

Exactly! Worth the price of admission alone. Bring back the snake pit in turn one and let today's women racers become the real attraction that women used to be!

I can understand if you're not a fan of Tony George and the current state of open wheel racing. But to call last year's race a big YAWN - you my friend need to open your eyes and get off your bitter soap box. Last year was the most exciting finish to ANY Indy 500 ever, and I'm including the Little Al / Scott Goodyear photo-finish too!

I mean, the drama of Michael Andretti leading the race with 2 to go.. his son passing him with 1 to go... and a Penske car overtaking 19 yr old Marco at the checkers for the win.

Man that was almost a year ago now - and I STILL get goosebumps recalling it.

Like I said, I'm not trying to sway you from your opinion of Tony George or your disdain for the IRL ... But give credit where credit is due - Indycar racing is EVERYTHING but YAWN. I mean seriously. It's very competitive.

If you're a fan of big names, watch Nascar. If you're a fan of actual RACING, watch this year's Indy 500.

I knew it just a big build up to get
people to watch this race. Great marketing job, three nice looking women
going in circle. Company I sell for
decided to get on board for Danica's
team, One America stupid move know
one watches. Wonder how the great Raider Jack Tatum doing.

All of the cars are the same, ractice is more than boring and some of the big teams will be north in the pits where the rail birds cannot get to them, qualifying is more that boring and the race barely can field 33 cars. There will be maybe 6-8 guys that actually have a shot at winning the thing unless there's a big crash. The race could and probably should be run in one week's time. The "Month of May" is now meaningless.

Sorry, but it's true, it's become a yawn.

Bring on F1.

I think it is so cool that women have a change at Indy 500.
It will show all men that just not for them anymore.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Danica or Sarah win this one. It would be better then some Frenchie or Euripean other then a German winning the race. But I speak for the rest of the US when I say Mika winning would almost be as bad as the Pathetic New England Patriot Panzies or should I say Modernday Yankees winning another SB!!!!! However an American male winning the race is better then anything. And for the record I saw Danica on CH.13 sports Jam last night and she was lookin damn fine!!!!!!!!!

It would be a good story if that were the truth. If Danica doesn't crash into the pit wall she may finish in the top 10 because the field is so weak. Mika, she'll probably qualify between 25th and 33rd and finish the same. She should have stayed in sports cars. And Sarah, having her just means 3 women will be at Indy.

I wish Arri Lyendike and Arri Lyendike Jr. were back in racing. But I've gotta say I've always hated that Buddy Lazire guy is he finally gone this season?
