Give us unity or give open wheel racing death. Good luck Tony, close the deal!

It is sad but open wheel racing will still never come back to it's high point after all these years of fighting. The Indy 500 was in decline way before the split and even before TG started trying to take over the controls back in the 80's.

CART in the early 90's was the best open wheeled racing EVER. There were 3 chassis, 4 engine mfgs and as many as 10 different drivers won during the season on 4 different types of tracks. The owners were just fools and now they are IRL team owners.

Best of luck to open wheeled racing but it has lost a lot of fans forever.

Intersting stuff but two things have to be pointed out. Why is Kalkhoven so obsessed with "silence" here? Champ Car was the best racing now they have nothing and Kevin Kalkhoven emphasizes silence and "media leaks?" Give us all a break, Kevin.
And while I know why the Star won't give credit here, shouldn't Robin Miller's name be front and center in at least forcing the Star to play catch up and print this story?
Unification rocks! Too bad these clowns couldn't figure that out in, oh, 1996?

This is not 'unification' or a 'merger', this is IRL luring CCWS teams to join their fold. 100 years of history down the drain, sheitwagons, no Turbos. Forget it.

I think TG is doing the right thing by working with KK and JF to unify prior to CCWS inevitable demise. I also agree with KK's comments for the rest of us to keep our noses out of it until they have something concrete. The bottom line is TG and KK know the intricacies of running the series and we, the general public, know diddly squat about running a race series and have no expertise to make actual valid comments. Therefore, any comments are only opinion with miniscule basis in fact. As my father told me once, keep your mouth shut and listen if you want to learn. 95% of all conversation is the conversant wanting attention and not providing any material fact or knowledge. When TG or KK have something to say, I will be ready to listen because from here on out, I'm keeping my mouth shut...

Ummm...Maybe if you would LISTEN you would know a few things. And that's FACT!
Sorry, but KK ain't got a clue and is simply attempting to cover his arse.
I would agree, however, that TG is attempting to fix something they created in '96.

Love how Curt is once again clueless as to what is really going on in the world of racing. Rumor has it he lives in Marion County? The Star's autoracing coverage, much like the sport itself has been in the dumpster for quite sometime.

There is not much to save in Openwheel spec racing these days. Wish them lots of luck

The only problem that this creates is that those teams that do JUST the Indianapolis 500, will have less of a chance to make the race better competition coming over from CART. Otherwise, this is a great move in my opinion!

KK continues to show how badly Champ Car has been run, and that he has no place in a management structure. Get it done!!

I am all for combining IRL with Champ Car to increase the car count, but, not for the sake of sacrificing the loss of oval races. If bringing the two series together creates more boring road/street races, count me out.

An interesting question is, what happens to the Atlantics as a feeder series? They were the one part of Champ Car that was prospering.

Sorry, but the 'one offs' have never done anything to make competition better because they haven't been competitive.

You can't invest just enough to run one race and be competitive at this level.

Geez... do you really need eleven 1.5 mile ovals on the schedule? Most are boring as hell. They also scare the hell out of many drivers who don't want to drive them for a living anymore.

It doesn't need to be a road race dominated series, but a good mix is a great thing. If you want to feel better, just tivo the first 1.5 mile oval and keep rewatching it every Sunday for the rest of the year.

I totally agree, just stating the fact that the will have even less of an impact in the month of May if the merger happens!
