No merger news but many questions

Another day came to an end Thursday without a unification of open-wheel racing. Indy Racing League founder Tony George didn't offer any news before flying to England for Scott Dixon 's weekend wedding, nor did ... Read more

The reason why there's so much uncertainty around "the merger", is that they are trying to mack truck this through without a lot of thought or planning. A merger like this is complicated and the two series are handling this kids trading baseball cards. It's not going to happen overnight, nor should it be expected to. They need to slow down and try to get it done right and plan to race together in 2009.

I think this sucks! I hate waiting and waiting for an announcement. My friend whose a big Champ fan said that they're adding a race in Turkey?

(This is pasted from another site)

AutoRacing1.com has learned that our informant was indeed correct and hence this rumor has been upgraded to 'fact.'

According to AutoRacing1.com sources, the Turks and Caicos Government has signed a letter of intent with the Indy Racing League (IRL) to launch Indy Turks and Caicos Grand Prix, slated for February 2009.

The Grand Prix will kick start the year of events for the IRL; and for this momentous world class event, a racing track will be constructed in Blue Hills, Providenciales, with work to commence in short order.

The event is to be broadcast live on ESPN, NBC and ABC. The exposure along with the potential injection of large sums of revenue into the TCI's economy will be a tremendous boost to the tourism product; as there will be four to five hours of non-stop racing related activities and events to be aired.

(I have no idea if it's a go or not, but this guy is usually on it)

But if you do have kids and grandkids, don't let them live under your basement stairs. if you do...
They will become bitter and grotesque. They will develope multiple personalities and lash out at folks who attempt to discuss things they disagree with. They will drool, eat mouse turds and become emotionally attached to vinyl dolls...especially the blow-up type. They will pick their nose and eat it. They will roll their feces into little balls and save it in an old mayonnaise jar. They will become pale and their eyes will enlarge because the only light they are exposed to is the dim, flickering computer screen.
They will become a.....LURKER
LOL, no we can't have that are you going to the track this weekend? They have that thing were they're showing the Daytona 500 out there, you probably know more about it then me. I think I'm going any excuse to go to Indy. I need to see what my seats are looking like.

We got Paddock Box Section B 15 Row E seat 1 and 2.

My Dad sits in E he has some kick butt seats but we can't get them, we keep trying everyear so we usually sit in A. But I'm over that so I thought hey might as well sit around the Stage and get some entertainment,:)

Turks and Caicos Island in the Bahamas. I would guess the teams will drive their transports to Miami and then load onto a ferry and spend about a day enroute.
Just a guess you understand.

Good lord, who cares?!? The relevance of open wheel racing was gone at least 10 if not 15 years ago. I used to go to and/or listen/watch every race each year. Then, I realized that there was grass growing outside my house so I chose to watch that instead.(actually, over the last two arrid summers, that isn't much of an exaggeration)

While I agree that the unification might bring in more fans, you could still fit all 10 of them in the same room :)

Both sides just need to get this done ASAP. Champ Car is a joke of a series. Come on, the way it stands now, they are only going to have 15 cars running each race. Not to mention have a 14 race schedule, it's a joke. And since A.J. Almendinger left the series for NASCAR there are no American drivers in the series. So much for an American racing series. The IRL on the other hand isn't doing a whole lot better. Most races they only run 18 cars and 16 races. Although about half the drivers are American, there is only a couple of American drivers in the series that are any threat at all of winning a race. If they merge and can get 22-26 cars per race and a 18-24 race schedule that would go a long way to making open wheel racing strong. Oh, and by the way... How about getting more you American drivers in the series. Wasn't that one of the reasons Tony George stated the IRL???

No just load up them at the FedEx hub at Indianapolis International Airport like usual. How do you think the cars and equipment have gotten to Japan, Australia, and Europe all these years? A slow boat to China or the Titanic? We've got that down to a science. When it absolutely, positively has to be there over night... FedEx!

Wow...FedEX. I never realized the teams used airfreighters to trasnport their cars and equipment overseas.
I didn't realize those MD-11's could land on such a small airfield. Especially when they are fully loaded. Their anti-skid systems aren't THAT good. And those GE CF6's can't get them up to V2 in time either. Their air fields are definately small aircraft fields only.
I will stick with the ferry idea. Unless you can prove that FedEX has VTOL MD-11's.

Can you imagine how much it would cost for the teams to go over there? Sarah Fisher is looking to field her own team, I don't see how she could afford that. I guess I just don't understand how the smaller teams could do this. I guess a boat would be cheap ?
