No merger news but many questions

Another day came to an end Thursday without a unification of open-wheel racing. Indy Racing League founder Tony George didn't offer any news before flying to England for Scott Dixon 's weekend wedding, nor did ... Full Story

Drove by the Champ Car office on the way back from lunch yesterday. The place looked deserted. There were only a few cars in the parking lot and one truck in the back that appeared to be in the process of being packed.

Can't wait to see how this drama unfolds.

Why does any league need Walker? He has always looked for handouts and has been a bit over the line and never had a penalty.

Both sides just need to get this done ASAP. Champ Car is a joke of a series. Come on, the way it stands now, they are only going to have 15 cars running each race. Not to mention have a 14 race schedule, it's a joke. And since A.J. Almendinger left the series for NASCAR there are no American drivers in the series. So much for an American racing series. The IRL on the other hand isn't doing a whole lot better. Most races they only run 18 cars and 16 races. Although about half the drivers are American, there is only a couple of American drivers in the series that are any threat at all of winning a race. If they merge and can get 22-26 cars per race and a 18-24 race schedule that would go a long way to making open wheel racing strong. Oh, and by the way... How about getting more you American drivers in the series. Wasn't that one of the reasons Tony George stated the IRL???

You are in Virginia huh? How would you even know if he was telling the truth or not? Champ Car's Home Office is in Indianapolis where I live. I drove by their office a few days ago and it was practically deserted. Stick a fork in them, they're done.

Why don't these two try to work something out for th future? Why do they wait until just a couple of months prior to the start of their seasons to try to merge? The whole thing is crazy! Forget about this year. The two should seek a merge maybe in the next two to three years. 2010 would be perfect! That way all the current contracts will be honored and no promoters or teams get the shaft. I don't believe a merger can happen this year anyway. Both have way to many race dates on the same weekends.

If the merger finally goes through, I say we all meet up at the fountain of the Speedway on raceday, poor some beer on the ground for the death of two series, then have a massive toast to the future of open wheel. Then let that be the last and final time anyone has to dicuss what's been going on since 1996. Cheers!

You are correct. My first day on board here and I make myself look stupid. Thank you for correcting me. Anyway, I remember the infighting back then, and I'll be pleasantly surprised if a merger now would unify forever the sport I love.

So if this fails it's all Dixon's fault?
