Your handle says it all. Even with this takeover, er "merger", the once great Indianapolis 500 will remain a shadow of its former self.
After all, what do we get when IRL swallows, I mean combines with the CCWS? All we have is a somewhat larger field in the Dallara/Honda spec race, masquerading as the formerly Greatest Spectacle in Racing.
Yep, cuz we all know CART invented the 500. In fact, the 500 was ALWAYS sanctioned by CART, until that BAD, BAD IRL came around.

Hey, looks like ya' still got the Atlantics series, sport.

I'm big on the "nice mix" idea. I'd really like to see them dump a few of the 1.5 mile ovals. Let's add Laguna Seca, Elkhart Lake, Cleveland. Maybe even consider alternating years and tracks. With the track owners saying what they are, and Kalkoven admitting to talking today, I've gotta think the deal's all but signed. For years sponsors [maybe new race teams?] have been waiting to see which direction OW is going. Now that it appears to be settled maybe the result will be much more than simply the sum of the parts.
You don't get to add road races because you lost. GET OVER IT

I believe that the glory days of the IRL were between 1995 and 2000 when American drivers were racing only ovals at 200mph. Now we have to sit through 6 or 7 road courses where we get to see cars take turns at 75mph and play follow the leader for 3 hours. To the victor goes the spoils, so get rid of these road/street/airport/european races
