Teams are limited in the amount of testing they can do at NASCAR sanctioned tracks ... in the cup series, they often test at Nashville, it is not on the schedule, and is comparable to some of the tracks that they do race. They can run unlimited testing at venues like that. I believe the tires are different than the Goodyear tires used in the races though, so at that point, how good is the testing info? When I watched David Reutiman test at Sear's Point a couple weeks ago, he wasn't even in a COT - which I found out later. Teams can test to their heart's content at tracks that are not on the regular schedule without NASCAR's having any say in the matter, as long as they can afford it. I'm unclear on what criteria NASCAR uses for sanctioned tracks, and of course there is tire testing. The tire tests are invite only, generally with each manufacturer invited, but not always. When all Ford is not invited, expect Jack the Hat complains that his five car team is being left in the dust and he NEEDS to test to stay competitive (whiney little Bi...). And when Tony is INVITED to test, he doesn't run all out as he doesn't feel he has to be there. Biffle on the other hand knows that the info the testing generates is only as accurate as the conditions the tires are used in, so he runs 'em as hard as possible.
