Yea. I wonder how much one can expect from anyone for just one race. Look at Scheckter -- he's an impressive driver even when racing here and there. If he racing every week with the right team, he'd have a few podium finishes by now.

I'd be hoping Walker puts together a decent pit crew and mechanical team -- one that won't set him on fire twice for the save event.

Well, I agree with half of what you said there May the.. whatever, it's really one race deal that you have to come out with a good result to stay in the game. But PT is a different figure there in the AOWR, he's got so much a bigger name than Schekter really, and looking at his performance in the practice, it's rock solid considering all the circumstances.

Marty Roth would be 13th on the Atlantic grid We don't know what sounds worse. Comparing the Atlantic Series and Indy Car Friday times at Edmonton, Marty Roth would have qualified 13th on the Atlantic grid (1:07.2), or another way to look at it, the first 12 Atlantic cars qualify for the IndyCar grid ahead of Roth.
And some of you think Roth belongs in the Indy Car Series. Give me a break.

I agree with you speeddurango. PT was impressive during practice. AJ IV and Ed should be checking under the hood because they have been driving essentially the same car all season, right?

When there are more teams and cars, the competition will eliminate the slower drivers.

A genuine question: Can you really compare the times of the Atlantic Series cars with the IRL cars is this manner? I think a road course puts them closer in terms of expected performance, but aren't there other factors that make keep them from such a comparison?

It depends how you look at it. Either way, the Indy Cars should be faster than any support series.
The Atlantics run a 2.3 liter, four-cylinder 16 valve fuel injected Mazda engine and produce 300 horsepower.
The IRL runs a 3.5 liter Honda V8 that produces approximately 650 horsepower.
The top Atlantic drivers/cars should really be within 3-5 seconds of the slowest Indy Car. There is no way that 12 Atlantic cars should be faster than Marty Roth. The IRL does not look like a top run series when situations like this occur. Most of this is due to Marty Roth being in over his head. The comparison just shows how bad he really is.
At the speeds Roth is running he will be a road block and a hazard for the other drivers.
The IRL can share a small percentage of blame too. At Mid-Ohio the P1 and P2 cars from the ALMS were running almost identical lap times to the IRL cars. When Champ Car tested at Mid-Ohio last year they were 5 seconds faster than Helio’s pole time from this year. I don’t think more horsepower would help Marty Roth but it would sure help the series and make for better racing.

Thanks for that information, Dan.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Cancer

Hold it! You need to approach things in a calm, controlled manner today otherwise you're likely to get yourself into a state in no time at all. That's especially likely if you're trying to meet a deadline because you'll start to panic and then become all fingers and thumbs. You might also get extremely ratty with anyone who gets in your way or asks stupid questions. Come on, is that fair?
