I attended the very first open wheel race at MIS and became hooked. Bought season tickets, it is very sad to watch the decline. The crowd today will probably be smaller than the first race. I would hate to be a racer and see all the EMPTY seats. MIS is probably one of the best tracks for viewing - not to bad for the racers either fast and safe. GOODBY !!!

I feel since the "IRL" split. the Indy car races are just not the same. I've been to the Indy 500 during the split of IRL and CART. and I notice a drop in the thousands of people. I have one thing to say about that. "THANKS TONY GEORGE!" Indy car racing used to be the best.

Can't understand this. The media along with Curt Cavin want you to believe that Danica will turn all this around!

Tony George didn't do it, some greedy team owners did it. Thank Rahal, Patrick, Penske, Ganassi..
The real loss is the visible innovation, it's hidden under cookie cutter bodywork, and there isn't room for much of that thanks to uniform engine packages. It's the same for all of open wheel. Sprints and midgets are all store bought cars and motors anymore. We now have the car of tomorrow with internal roll cage, and COT with external cage (Silver Crown). PRA was a good idea, but it doesn't seem to have gotten off the ground. Silver Crown dirt is the last hope, but media outlets aren't interested in trade for publicity, so they never get ink. Eldora, the Indy Mile, and the Springfield MIle are all great tracks with a lot of history, but the only publicity is word of mouth, and that doesn't cut it.

Just another track left to die in the list of former IRL tracks. At least MIS won't get the Nazreth treatment of having their granstands sold and being plowed under for redevelopment. MIS must not know what Indy means.

Thanks to Tony George. It all started a few years ago, and now the end is near.

Curt is lying again, trying to pretend that the worthless, rotten 'league' has been putting on its shoddy imitation of racing at Michigan for 40 years.

No wonder frauds like this are shills for the 'league'

Open wheel racing left MIS when CART left. The 'league' has absolutely nothing to do with the history there.

I lost my race virginity at Michigan. I've seen so many races at so many tracks and there was nothing like a seat at the top of the stands for an open-wheel event at Michigan. If you were there for a CART race, you know what I mean. It wasn't worth my time and money for an IRL event, just because.... You cannot solely blame either faction, it isn't just George and it isn't just the team owners. It's a large bunch of boys competing; waving their wallets, strutting their feathers, flexin'. And now finally, they have bored all their support, their fans, their sponsors into a coma. There aren't even enough fans to back an uprising.

You, my friend, are delusional. Do you not remember the Handford device and the problems it caused at MIS? The IRL has put on much better racing than the CART boy put on in the final years. GET REAL! dork...

The irl is trash, it's not even racing. It's garbage, as is anyone who supports that abomination. That includes all the 'participants', as well as the minuscule amount of 'fans' of that rubbish.

The 'league' trying to revise history yet again is typical of the disgusting filth that populate that 'organization', especially at the top, but all the way through it as well.

Sluggo, you are the idiot. The handford device increased opportunities for passing. Those final years of CART races at MIS were some of the best. The IRL is a joke and could only hope to have races that good.

Honda should bail on the IRL and concentrate on their F1 team, as it is an embarrassment.
