As a subscriber to Autosport, I have to admit I am getting tired of seeing Lewis Hamilton's gapped-toothed mug on the cover EVERY freaking issue. The dude hasn't won yet. That'll probably change today, but still.........

Ah the irrelevant racing league winner finds out that Europe doesn't care.

With the reduced crowds at TMS we can also see that the US doesn't care.

Thanks, Tony George! You're sooo smart.

Dario should take a look at how his wife handled his 500 win. She was interviewed and then STAYED out of the spotlight. Not many celebrities would have done that. So Dario, so what, let the rookie have the spotlight, stay out of the spotlight and just continue to do your thing in the IRL and not worry what some magazine in Europe does. The mag. doesn't sell seats at the tracks that you guys race at--at least for the most part.

He did win yesterday, didn't he? I was only half listening to the coverage of that race.

I don't think that I'd put to much in anything that turd Wheldon says, but, IRL is not F1.

Dan is still miffed that Danica got more press than he did in after the 2005 Indy 500. Now, Dario is miffed that Lewis is getting more press than he.

Sorry, dudes. Maybe you'd get the press if you were more interesting.(And, btw, Dario, how much press did YOU get because your wife ran around in a clingy, rain-soaked frock in her barefeet?)

But the bottomline is that the press -- whoever its for -- is good for EVERYONE. Even if it's press for Lewis who's due to arrive in Indy in just a few days.

In my book, they're both whiners.

Yep...You are correct! In all his 6 starts this year, his worst finish has been third!*winks* Now this is his first Pole and his first Win! He is very well grounded(supportive family)and well spoken! He is a huge asset in representing Formula One in the very best light!! JMO:)

It's really too bad that a driver can't feel fortune and contentment in the more simple things in life: like winning the world's biggest race (the Indy 500), and collecting $1.6 million in prize money. Stories like these are what drive fans away from open-wheel racing. Disappointing.

The Indianapolis 500 has lost it's prestige. The slight is not against Franchitti, it is against the Indy 500!

Dario, you won....I mean were in the lead when it rained...and now you get your mug on the Borg Warner. Enjoy it because while you got the win, I think its fair to say that most people don't think you won the 500, you just happened to be the leader a t apoint in time when the rain came. Run 200 laps and who really thinks Dario wins? Helio, Kanann even after his spin, and Hornish probably beat you. You had a 3rd-5th place car and got lucky.

Franchitti is the 2007 500 winner. He won his spot in history. F1 is good but not the best drivers in the world. Jimmy Clark showed what the title best driver in the world was. F1 champ,Indy 500 winner,Ran in NASCAR and other USAC races years before otherF1 drivers, tried a Sprint car out,ran most of the big sport car races around the world, F2 driver plus many other forms of racing during his to short life. Don't see anyone even close to this today. If you could get the truth out of most drivers (all forms of racing) they would like to have the title "Indy 500 Champion" on their resume. All of you Tony George haters who blame him for the split/call me I have all the old Autoweeks etc, stored in my garage. They show that there were many others who forced this split back in the day.It was a combined effort. If someone doesn't do something other than sit around arguing old history then all you will have left is NASCAR. Its doing a fine job of sucking the life out of all forms of racing. The Indy 500 is and will always be in my mind the greatest race in the world, even if they race Greyhound dogs around the speedway on Memorial Day! Go look at the faces on the trophy I don't see any Nascar guys on there,a couple of F1 guys, and a couple of Sport car drivers. Way to go DARIO!!

Granted, the Indy 500 has lost its prestige. TG blew it...yada, yada, yada...

But...it's still run on the biggest, fastest, most-perilous and challenging road course on the planet. With all of the things mentioned through these last 12 years that could make it better, it remains the most difficult race in the world to win.

Autosport's snub of Franchitti and the race illustrates one of the key things---other than what TG can do---that needs to change which will restore the 500 to past glory: The press trying to convince us each and every year that Indy isn't the same and doesn't matter anymore. Because that's simply nonsense.
